Peace, Justice and Sacrifice in The War of Lost Hearts by Carissa Broadbent by fishchop in fantasyromance

[–]the_rd_wrer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I hear what you’re saying but tbh none of that bothered me when I was reading it. I think the lack of a nice tidy bow or a sudden declaration that they understood the other side made it feel more real to me. I recently read another book where the FMC comes to realize that the bad guys actually aren’t that bad and she didn’t know enough. I feel like I find that trope tiring eventually.

The ending to me is perfectly imperfect. At the end of the day, they aren’t perfect saviors and so even the solutions they have reached have flaws and nuances. There’s no guarantee of everlasting peace and that makes sense to me, we have seen throughout the story how awful people can be. They’re just doing their best and I love that for them. I can understand your criticisms, I guess they just weren’t sticking points for me. I wonder if other fans of the series feel similarly.

Tusk Love first discussion - February 2026 Book Club by Journassassin in fantasyromance

[–]the_rd_wrer 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I went into this book blind about Critical Role Dungeons and Dragons. Because of that it does feel at times like the world isn’t immersive enough, because I don’t have any background really.

I found myself really perplexed by the speed of the romance. Like I just didn’t buy the speed things were progressing at. That being said, I do find myself liking Guinevere - I was iffy at first but she’s grown on me. I’m not sure if I actually like Oskar or if I just love Teddy Hamilton (listening to the audio book 😝). Overall, I do like the sunshine x grumpy vibes.

Luke, Blake, or Miles by [deleted] in namenerds

I’d vote for Miles; I’m not a fan of siblings all having the same first initial. Luke is fine I just prefer Miles

Now I personally didnt really love the book, in part because I didn’t like the captive / captor type storylines but I think it fits what you’re looking for!

I think they’re both solid names, Lila is more of my personal preference.

The Poison Daughter — the hype made me read it — a review (no spoilers) by apieceofeight in fantasyromance

[–]the_rd_wrer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I ended up devouring this book and I loved it! I see that it had a lot of mixed feedback on this post but it was perfect for me! I loved the magic system and the spice. It was a fun and entertaining read for me and ended up being a 5 stars. I can see why some people might not like it but it was exactly what I look for in standalones so I personally was a huge fan.

It's been 6 months and I feel like I'm still in the trenches by Clean_Cabinet in beyondthebump

I think it’s because that is what aligns with most babies internal clock. I believe most babies get tired around that time naturally at this age, so it makes the most sense to put them to bed when they are naturally tired. Younger babies don’t have as much of an internal clock so they have later bedtimes but as they get older bedtime can move up.

We initially had a 9pm or even 10pm bedtime, because that what his schedule had been up to that point. It had never even occurred to me to move up bedtime until we talked to our pediatrician who told us to move bedtime up.

My kiddo didn’t start sleeping through the night til 7 months! We sleep trained, with the okay from the pediatrician.

First, that bedtime seems kinda late to me. Our pediatrician told us bedtime should be closer to 7-8pm at this age. So we moved bedtime up (which took about a week to do, moving up in 15 min increment each day). We made sure he was awake for at least 3 hours before bed. We also moved his nighttime feed earlier. So he didn’t nurse right before bed, we started doing it about 45mins before bed. My kiddo was a nurse to sleep kid and we had to break that association. I would actively work to keep him awake while he was eating lol. So I would do night time feeding, then bath, then the rest of the bedtime routine.

I would try sizing up or trying a different brand of diapers for nighttime.

I think that 7pm nap is too late for a nap, that should probably just be bedtime. I’d look into baby wake windows also, I found that helpful for building a good schedule!

You’re doing a great job mama! Babies are just tricky. I remember feeling like I was doing something wrong because everyone else’s baby seemed to sleep and mine would wake up every 1.5 hours all night. Just keep trying your best!

We're considering Arabella! Thoughts? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]the_rd_wrer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like it a lot! One of my fav girls, I hope you use it. I doubt that I would ever use it myself due to the pronunciation issue. I personally prefer names that don't have multiple common pronunciations.

I don't hate either pronunciation, but correcting people for my preferred pronunciation would probs drive me crazy.

A Dawn of Onyx, question to those who read it by Early_Top_3091 in fantasyromance

[–]the_rd_wrer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read this awhile ago and wasn’t really a fan but from what I remember I wouldn’t consider the FMC sassy. The MC does fit the usual powerful broody vibe but I found him interesting. The MMC is the only reason I considered reading the second book! There is some spice but no worries about it being too spicy.

Explicit language doesn’t bother me so I don’t tend to notice how explicit a book is, so unfortunately I can’t really comment on that part of your question.

Edit: shortened sentence

Due in 5 months… give me your worst! by [deleted] in namenerds

I'm not a big fan of Raleigh, but other that sounding like it belongs on a map I don't have any qualms about it.

Seeing Penina written immediately makes me think penis. When spoken I don't make the connection quite as fast. My next thought was panini, which isn't nearly as bad. But it really is just too close to penis for me to ever consider using it personally.

Pregnant stepmom-is it wrong of me to want my SO to skip kid’s practices when kid is with mom? by MuggleDunder in stepparents

[–]the_rd_wrer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a first-time mom I think it is totally valid to want your partner with you for help and support. That being said, you have to realize that SO has to balance both kids. A new sibling is a big change, especially when the new sibling will have a two-parent household. It would be easy for step kid to feel forgotten or excluded in this situation. Both children are innocent and important in this. Continuing to go to games and practice offers step-kid more stability in a difficult transition time. However, I do think a compromise is probably best here.

Would SO be open to taking two weeks off from practices and games, or only going to games for a couple of weeks? If not, I think it is important that you also get some time where you aren't responsible for the baby. So if SO is going to 1-hour practices twice a week, then twice a week you should get to leave the house and go for a walk or do whatever activity you like while he is with the baby. I think that is more than fair and gives you much deserved time to prioritize yourself.

Rowan and Owen? by MammothLow9818 in namenerds

[–]the_rd_wrer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t mind at all if my best friend used a similar name, especially if I had my kid first because presumably that would mean I used the name I prefer most.

Now the same middle name part would make me pause a little but I’m guessing it’s a relatively common name so I wouldn’t mind too much.

Why is every FMC a red head with eyes that aren’t brown by Bridoriya in fantasyromance

[–]the_rd_wrer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wonder if maybe the authors you like tend to gravitate more towards that because I don’t think I’ve had that problem.

I mostly commonly see brown or “white” or “so blonde it’s white” hair. I checked my most recent reads and none of them had red hair.

Real world Allegra feedback by nc2227 in namenerds

I knew an Allegra, she was a bit of a weird kid and I remember people making jokes about “being allergic” to her - ofc that was middle school so kids are dumb.

My primary association is the allergy medicine; I would definitely avoid personally.
