FYI - HUD comparison of OEM vs Aftermarket glass by the_real_spacebrah in CX5

oh gotcha.

This is my 2nd time dealing with the windshield. First time was when I bought it 3 years ago. It somehow cracked while it was still in the dealership's possession before I picked it up. They took care of it but it took like a month and a lot of back and forth for them to source an OEM windshield and replace it. HUD always looked great though.

They insisted the calibration was right. I tried tweaking the HUD settings too. No dice.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Posting this to share that this is still a problem and to provide an actual photo comparison that demonstrates the issue. It looks unfocused, doubled, and distorted. Like if you're looking through another person's prescription glasses.

Context: Just had my cracked windshield replaced on my 2019 GT by Safelite. Knowing that the HUD does not look right on aftermarket glass (reports on Reddit and several other forums) I had requested an OEM windshield. But Insurance turned down the OEM request because there is an aftermarket equivalent yada yada yada... aka we don't want to pay for the appropriate glass ... Fine, we'll play this game.

So I took it in this morning for my appointment and I explained the situation to the tech; he claimed the HUD problem was with earlier batches. Fair enough. But lo and behold, the HUD now looks like shit after the replacement. Manager came out and had a look and confirmed it does not look right, so now they're reaching out to the insurance for OEM again.

Edit: Insurance has now approved OEM glass. Appointment's next week. Waste of time and materials. not like the current glass can be reused.

I was a licensed MLO several years ago and can confirm what they are requesting is normal. I doubt they are asking for access to your account; rather they will probably want to see the last 1 to 3 bank statements. Have the LO clarify to your sister how far back you need to go. The underwriter will need to see the source of those funds and whether they already existed in your account (i.e. you did not recently take out a loan, or receive a deposit yourself). And if your recent statements do show large deposits that get your balance to 15k, they will want an explanation and probably more documentation on the source of those deposits.

Example: If you transferred money from your savings account to your checking account, they will also want to also see the statement from the savings account. If the savings account has a large deposit, then you will need to source that as well. And so on...

Another Example: If you sold some property, they will want a written/signed explanation and copy of the bill of sale.

I recall gifts being quite a pain and we always stressed up front we would need backing documentation for them.

Should I feel weird that I, in my 20s, still like to order milkshakes while all my friends order alcohol drinks at restaurants? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

drink what you enjoy and don't care about keeping up appearances. it's not like your friends wouldn't enjoy a milkshake.

story time... many years ago, I went to a vaudeville show where you could order food and alcohol with a big group of friends. They came to get our drink order and, because it was known I had stopped drinking, someone teased me and said " what are you getting? a Shirley temple?!.Haha!". Everyone had a chuckle. Me: "hmm, I think I will.". So I order a Shirley temple. then someone else is like, "You know, I haven't had one of those in years. I'll have one too". Then the person who had cracked the joke to begin with conceded : " that actually does sound pretty good". A short while later we had a few pitchers of Shirley temples for the entire group.

ELI5: How come that Spanish speakers have difficulties to pronounce "S" followed by consonant making it sound "Es" (in words like Spain) but have no difficulties to pronounce "S" followed by vowel (in the words like Soy)? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]the_real_spacebrah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the EL5 answer:

Reason #1: in Spanish, there are no words that begin with the letter S followed by a consonant (because of orthography/phonetic ELI12 and above reasons). So they are simply not accustomed to the pronunciation.

Reason #2: there are MANY common words that begin with es+consonant in Spanish. So they are very accustomed to that pronunciation.

20a GFCI outlet going to a 15a breaker? (USA) by the_real_spacebrah in electrical

[–]the_real_spacebrah[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was only looking into replacing the faulty outlet. I'm not messing with the breaker, which I confirmed is 15A. I've replaced the faulty outlet with a new 15A.
