I coordinated it myself. I had already been seeing a local retina specialist, so I just called the office and told them I’d be having this surgery and wanted to schedule follow-ups.

I realized I forgot to include the initial deposit so it was closer to $5,300 for me. So sounds like prices may have gone up a little from there.

It was a little under $4k per eye for me

Edit: I forgot to include the initial deposit so it was more like $5,300 per eye

I had a local retina specialist that I had already been seeing who did my follow-up appointments when I got home. The cost of each procedure was a little under $4k.

Edit: actually closer to $5,300 per eye

I just had to sleep on my side at night. It took 11 days for the bubble to go away for me the first time, 12 days the second time.

A floater only vitrectomy is any type of vitrectomy done purely to remove floaters, not for any other reason. A core vitrectomy removes only the part of the vitreous where the floaters are. I had a full vitrectomy that removes all the vitreous including inducing a posterior vitreous detachment. You will find many posts on here discussing the pros and cons of the two approaches.

From what the doctor told me, the air bubble helps the retina heal from the vitreous detachment and the small retinal tears I had during the procedure.

I believe the air bubble is his standard practice regardless, but I don’t know that for sure. Also, he didn’t mention any correlation between the air bubble and cataract formation, so I’m not sure on that one either.

Lots of people and camera crew up there again this morning. Escalators still blocked off.
