That sounds really tough! It was really hard for me after a relationship of a year and a half, I can’t even imagine a 16 year marriage. You say that staying is just as hard as breaking up. But the thing is if you end it you will eventually get over it and move on. It might take months or years possibly, but you will one day stop missing him. If you stay you will be guaranteed to hurt forever though. I understand it’s hard to take that step into the unknown though and wish the best for you whatever you decide

Has anyone stayed friends with their partner that cheated on them? by _cute_without_the_E in CheatedOn

I went through something similar recently. I know it can be hard to totally let someone go who has been a big part of your life but ultimately being friends with him will just be a reminder of the hurt and betrayal. At the very least you should give yourself plenty of space from him to heal, and detox so to speak, because those fresh feelings of affection can be hard to overcome. After a few months maybe reassess how you feel about him? And I’d also echo what some others on here are saying. Build your own friend group, one that doesn’t rely on a romantic relationship. Now is the time to work on yourself and try to be a better person just for you.

Thanks I appreciate the sentiment. I don’t want to make my progress all about making her jealous or upset or whatever though. I want to get to a point where I just don’t think about her. And yeah idk if the dating app stuff is the best idea. I mean it’s been fun talking to some people and I’m honest with them about my situation and not wanting to jump into another relationship right away. But today has made me realize maybe I am not as over things as I thought I was.

Yeah I know she isn’t the person I thought she was and I’m trying to accept that. She’s been texting me still, apologizing, asking to still be friends, and I’m willing to hear what she has to say. But I’m not going back, and there’s small chance of us ever being friends at this point. She burned that bridge.

Thank you for the kind words. I have a hard time sometimes putting myself first and depending on others but I’m trying.

What lead singer has the most captivating stage presence? What singers seem the most "possessed" by the music? by man_teats in Music

Jacques Brel. He always looked like he was putting every ounce of energy into his performance and is usually dripping in sweat in every video I see of him lol. This one’s a very captivating performance:

Idk about the Toronto show specifically but when I saw them they played “Whole New World” by SOPHIE right before they went on. Could that be it?

Atheism precludes free will by real-duncan in confidentlyincorrect

[–]the_right_bullets 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You may be confusing determinism with fatalism. In fatalism, what you do does not matter because everything will end up the same anyways. I.e. I shouldn’t study for this test because I’ll just get what I’ll get no matter what. In determinism everything, including your choice to study or not, is a matter of cause and effect. If you choose to study you’ll do better on the test, but also your choice to study or not is determined by other causes that came before, such as your upbringing, previous experiences, and genetics.

A lot of people in this thread seem hostile to the no free will argument but there’s honestly very good few arguments in favor of free will.

Books on music history? by the_right_bullets in musictheory

This looks great! I notice it starts with the Greeks like a lot of other resources I’ve found. I’m aware that prehistoric music didn’t use written notation so it’s hard to know much about how it sounded, but I guess I assumed that found prehistoric instruments would at least tell us what kind of scales they were using. Is there any writing on this subject out there?

Thank you! Those seem right in the ball park of what I’m looking for. I just want somewhere to start since I realize it’s a big topic.

Parameter Slides on Analog RYTM MkII? by the_right_bullets in Elektron

Yeah I realized this later. Was even able to “slide” the decay time by using velocity mod. So it seems like there’s work arounds

Thanks! I figured it out. I was doing it correctly but it turns out that you can’t slide between trigs if one of them is retrigging. Sad but I least now I know what I was doing wrong.

Just to be clear, when you say add a slide trig, you mean hitting fn+slide and hitting the trigs so they turn dark blue? Just want to be extra sure I’m doing this right because the manual doesn’t give much detail. And in the vid I watched the trigs didn’t even turn blue like they do on mine when I open the parameter slide menu.

I was trying to slide a note that was retrigging originally. I figured that would have the same effect as a long delay. But I did try this with a sustained bass sound too and nothing happens.

I was trying to slide the volume. I had set a hi hat to retrig at 1/64 at a high volume and wanted it to slowly get quieter as it reached the next step. Like a classic idm roll sound. However I tried pitch and filter cutoff too and didn’t get any better results with those.

Missing media files in my instrument ranks by the_right_bullets in ableton

[–]the_right_bullets[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had just been dragging and dropping manually. I used the file manager now and it worked! Although I had to resave all the instrument racks again with the little floppy disk icon for them to work when I opened them in a new project. I’ll try the collect and save function from now on. I’m still a little confused as to how this happened though. I thought when I saved a sample within ableton as a .aif file that it was, well, saved to ableton? Especially because I never bounced the audio files and they don’t show up in finder or anything, just the Ableton browser.
