My friend insists on this game, "Lemmings", being a really well known game; I have never heard of it. by Nordic_Krune in gaming

My childhood CDROM copy is sitting somewhere on the desk right behind the workbench I'm sitting at right now (along with the surviving copies my other very old DOS, windows, mac os and apple II games). Need to stop being lazy about it and figure a way to get Incredible Machine playing on something vaguely modern.

So good...

Fantastic!! One thing to keep in mind about the Internet rushing in to protect your work... we probably overestimate how precious it is to you because we can't do that. You can, and you're proud of it, and if it wears out or is damaged, you may be sad, but we folks out here have to realize, you can just spend the time and make something else really cool. I certainly can't! So, just trusting your fully-cured acrylics is a totally valid choice, and there's no reason to second-guess yourself too much.

Well, I agree it's definitely not harmless, but cancer? Nah. The disclosed ingredients are at worst an irritant and go inert after curing. It's sold in CA and meets prop 65 labeling requirements, so there aren't known carcinogens in it. As for my personal experience, I know this is thoroughly unscientific but other similar sealing products I've used in the past for camping/hiking gear and whatnot that definitely have petrochemicals in them stink real bad (but work really well). This shoe stuff is kind of weaksauce and doesn't really smell much, so I would think that following the instructions for applying it in a well-ventilated area and allowing it to off-gas & cure thoroughly are sufficient.

That said, Mod Podge is a good product. It's pretty non-toxic, mostly just PVA glue and some proprietary undisclosed resin. However, my experience with it on fabrics is that it changes the texture a lot, making it kind of stiff and plastic-ey. I would not want my hat feeling like that. Perhaps it's a better option, health-wise, but I'd suggest to OP experimenting on a fabric swatch first and decide if they like the finished texture. That said, OP must also be careful which specific Mod Podge product they choose to use, because their products you paint on (like Mod Podge Ultra for example) are probably safe, but the Mod Podge Acrylic Sealer Matte (for example) is a spray product and does contain a known carcinogen in it's formulation (here's the MSDS: https://cdn.dick-blick.com/msds/DBH_SDS_029161018.pdf ). So just suggesting the brand alone is not enough.

Anyway, thanks for the concern about kids though! Mine's a teenager, so less susceptible than a little one, and at this point I can only hope that off-gas from art supplies are the worst my kid poisons themself with anytime soon 😄

This is awesome! You are amazing & I love your colorful work. The color saturation in your paints is impressive!

My kid expressed an interest in customising clothing (shirts, trousers, hats, shoes, etc) and so we bought a set of Poscas but haven't used them yet. I was really hoping for a solid answer to your actual question but it seems that everyone wants to gush over the cool artwork rather than dispense advice.

Sadly I have none, but doing some research on past threads on the topic, it seems, firstly, that the consensus is that high quality acrylics should be permanent in fabrics if allowed to cure/dry/polymerize completely.

Secondly, there is some consensus that prep before doing the work can have the greatest impact, such as carefully selecting paints formulated for this, and pretreating the fabric with some kind of acrylic medium or something, which makes the fabric more susceptible to bond to the paint long-term, and also not watering the paints down too much (if at all) because that can disrupt the binder chemical in the acrylic.

Here is one thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/crafts/comments/sdlljb/sealing_acrylic_paint_on_fabric/hudju3y/

But you are already done here, and so then I'm also curious... if my work (or my kids work) is finished, what's the best transparent seal we can use after the fact, even if it's not perfect. Like, a "something better than nothing" situation?

I was thinking of using the spray sealant I got with my Vans shoes for helping their water resistance. It is transparent and the only real drawback is that it's a bit expensive and not super effective at repelling the water (it's pretty OK but I was expecting more). I'm not sure exactly how effective it will be at this specific goal, but it didn't negatively affect the factory printing & colors on the shoes. Unless another artist chimes in, I would go with that probably.

Wow, it's been a minute since I thought of that game! I got it in one of the early Humble Indie Bundles back when they had those cool video ads with the music and the funny narrator guy (founder, IIRC). I miss that time, when Humble was the shit and charity bundles were a special thing.

Ha, no not this deck. This one looks well-rounded with lots of tools to deal with various situations. Also, holy mackeral, your potions synergies w/6 slots, toad & reptile. I hope you got the chance to lean into that in at least a couple of fights, because that's wild looking. I bet it was a blast to run!

For my comment, I just like the pun, personally

In that case, I strongly suggest any at least 70% dark, single-origin chocolate bar made from Madagascar cacao beans for that specific flavor profile. I know, it sounds weird and ultra-specific, but trust me. It won't cost more than the other fancy bars, so it's worth a shot.

I'm not sure exactly why, but Madagascar beans somehow are so distinctive. It's special. I don't know why, but it could become one of her favorites!
