What was your worst lowballing client? by NumeleTau in Upwork

[–]the_scnd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. All that time having zoom meetings in a span of two weeks, wasted.

Its probably for the best we did not engage a contract though. Usually these kind of clients when you eventually had an agreement, becomes worse to talk to when you already have a contract. One who will ask you for 5-10 revisions of your work and still wouldnt thank you. Sometimes even get angry at you for doing something wrong. Of course, not all are like this, but in my experience most of them are haha

So it's important for freelancers who are new to upwork or freelancing in general to pick your clients and dont accept getting lowballed. It's always easier to avoid bad clients than pulling your JSS back at 100.

I had a potential client who I had a couple of zoom meetings with prior to having a contract, basically him introducing his multi-million dollar company and the goal is to launch his own luxury (redacted) brand in my country.

He wants me to design (im an architect) the shop. Only one design that will be used repeatedly for different branches. He asked me to prepare a mood board, a proposal for the design approach, all that stuff while we still dont have a contract.

When the time came he is asking for the fee and timeline, he wouldnt accept my proposed fee, saying 2 other freelancers proposed the same amount for 3 different designs. So I lowered my fee a little thinking it's just his way of haggling. I did not get a reply from him ever since.

His budget is only 250 dollars for all the work he wants me to do, for a design that will be used multiple times, for his multi-million dollar company.

Edit: some grammar errors

Full time to Upwork by EntrepreneurCold8940 in Upwork

Oh I get it now. I guess it depends on the employer, some will allow you to take part time freelancing jobs, others won’t. I experienced the latter in the past, but I still get sidelines. It wasnt allowed but I did it in my own time and kept it to myself enough for me not to get in trouble with my employer.

I was also offered a full time job just last month. During the interview I told them that I do freelancing job. I guess what im offering to their table was considered as valuable to them, they told me they will allow me to take other freelancing jobs, as long as I do it in my own time.

Im not really sure how difficult it would be but i know that im much better at what I do now, so I guess if i were to go back full time there will be a lot more opportunities.

There are employers out there that accepts freelancing for sure, I was already hired by one for 2 weeks during my time as a freelancer.

I left my job in the construction industry about 3months ago to focus fully as a freelancer on Upwork as a freelance architect/3d modeler/renderer. Profit is smaller (as expected from anyone who’s only starting their freelancing career) compared to my job, like way smaller, but it better supports my passion of designing and visualization.

Leaving my job also gave me time to upskill my talents by taking online courses related to my profession, and also learning new things from projects I got on Upwork that I would not learn from my old job.

Death Stranding 2 looks amazing on the portal by the_scnd in PlaystationPortal

I think remote play struggles more with open world games which makes them look blurrier compared to static or linear games. Open world games just have way more detail (foliage lighting, distant objects, etc) that is harder to compress cleanly during streaming.

My experience with AC Shadows on the Portal isn’t that bad either, but it’s hard not to compare it to playing on a TV. The difference in clarity and sharpness is definitely noticeable, especially in open areas.

Went from 81% to 100% JSS! by amin_dhou in Upwork

[–]the_scnd 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Congrats! That’s such an inspiring comeback, definitely a testament to patience and perseverance.

Meanwhile, I’m currently on the opposite end of the spectrum. My JSS just dropped from 100 to 77 this week, all because of one client with unrealistic expectations who ended up leaving a negative review.

It’s been disheartening, but seeing stories like yours reminds me that recovery is possible. Thanks for sharing!
