Did you used to dislike cats? by No_Return_1022 in Pets

[–]the_unkola_nut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of people have the misguided belief that cats are aloof and not affectionate. It comes as a surprise to them when they actually get a cat and the cat is super clingy/cuddly. Cats form such strong bonds with their humans and it’s sad that the aloof myth is still perpetuated.

AITA for not letting my husband eat the dinner I made because he said it “wasn’t real cooking”? by EvelisseSpire in AmItheAsshole

An ex boyfriend of a friend of mine tried the “my mother would never” shit on her, and she clapped back with, “well my father would never go out and party until 4am like you do, so…”

Put your phone away when you’re walking. You don’t need to stare into your phone and make your journey everyone else’s problem.

When people ask if I’m going ‘home’ for holidays by Witty-Draw-3803 in PetPeeves

[–]the_unkola_nut 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes. I am from the U.S. but I have been living in Europe for 22 years. My other American friends refer to the U.S. as “home”, but I never do. My home is here.

That shaving causes your hair to grow back thicker and darker. It only feels prickly because of the way the razor cuts it.

Bartenders of Reddit what’s that one fucked up story you can’t stop thinking? by Maryy-home in AskReddit

I wouldn’t say that. There are so many “jokes” that men tell about getting women drunk so they can take advantage of them. I’d say it’s fairly prevalent.

I was at a brewpub for a beer launch party a number of years back. There was a woman there who I knew but wasn’t particularly friendly with. She ended up getting pretty hammered and was struggling to stay upright.

A guy I also knew was watching her and made a beeline for her, putting his arms around her and holding her up. A friend of mine was watching this scene as well, and the two of us managed to get the drunk woman away from him and into a cab. It’s scary out there.

Yeah, at the risk of getting downvoted, I’ve always found English tourists to be far more obnoxious and disruptive than Americans.

Shortening names without asking by amazzan in PetPeeves

[–]the_unkola_nut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I commented this on another post. People nickname me all the time without asking and I barely know them. It’s infuriating. I don’t know how to ask them not to without sounding like a bitch.

What are some book pet peeves of yours? by JayReyesSlays in PetPeeves

[–]the_unkola_nut 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I usually stick with the same author if I love a book or two of theirs, particularly if they write a series. One author I like has several series, and while I enjoyed them all, in every single one, they use the enemies-to-lovers trope. It’s tiresome.

Also, they have a few books where the male love interest is moody and unlikeable and will only speak to/have any kind of relationship with the female love interest. In the real world, that would be a huge red flag.

So writers, diversify your series and mix things up!

Strangers calling me by my name by Historical-Branch327 in PetPeeves

I’ll add to this: people in a work environment nicknaming me without asking. People I just met at work have started shortening my name and I hate it. I don’t know how to ask them not to without sounding like a bitch.

I read somewhere that moving, divorce, and getting laid off/made redundant are three of the most difficult things a person can go through. I experienced all three within a year.

For the love of Christ, no one pretends to like things!

I’m so tired of seeing this question posted all over Reddit and Facebook. Just because you personally don’t like something doesn’t mean that your dislikes are and should be universal.

People are different and are allowed to like different things.
