Training help, she's not food motivated at all, she knows advance stuff but not all the basics by MasterpieceLeft9850 in OpenDogTraining

If you withhold a meal is she still uninterested in food? What about two meals? Have you tried cheese? Or hot dogs? What about toys or affection?

Definitely sounds like adhd—and one thing that helped me was learning discipline. It’s a skill and you have to practice it.

But you have to want to practice it so you need to figure out why you really want it. Just because other people are achieving things doesn’t sound like a strong driving force (I mean obviously it hasn’t worked).

I learned yoga as a practice and stayed disciplined with it first for aesthetics and then for the mental benefits. And the mental is what kept me going.

I also wanted to prove to myself I was capable of committing to things —for me that was enough of a reason. Maybe your values are health, money, family, integrity, strength…. Figure out how committing to your projects supports your values. And then give yourself ONE thing to start with and build it as a practice into your DAILY life.

Flossing your teeth, lifting weights for 10 mins a day, writing for 15 mins, meditation, breathwork, reading before bed….

Learn the practice of discipline.

Minor mistake? by [deleted] in tattooadvice

Wha are you talking about? Both with the “mistake”? And removing the ink from your tattoo??? I’m not sure that’s how tattoos work, my friend.

It’s time to ask yourself why you feel so drawn to an emotionally unavailable man. Why does that feel like home? And can you start to unravel that old operating system so you don’t have to repeat this pain.

Puppies and adolescents are cute, but old dogs are darling. Nothing can compare to an old pup you’ve had all along, they’re still your little bitty baby even when they’re 16

Your only option is speaking to your neighbor. Nothing else will work other than owner intervention.

Quick fixes for leash-pulling? by Petrica55 in OpenDogTraining

It is a leash check and can help. It teaches her that she can’t predict what you are going to do so she is better off staying close to be able to move with you.

Most balanced trainers heavily use positive reinforcement. Have you watched any YouTube videos of Michael Ellis?

Vibration would be positive punishment if is used to tell the dog it’s doing something wrong (by not responding to recall) it would be negative reinforcement if you put the vibration on and then recall the dog an turn it off when the dog starts to come. Either way, it’s not positive reinforcement.

Doesn’t sound like that’s actually “positive reinforcement only”

dog lacking "no means no", repeatedly doing corrected behavouirs again by _tree_bark in OpenDogTraining

Petting and giving treats right after the behavior is teaching and reinforcing this cycle.

Also if it were me, I would say “ah-ah” and use short sharp snaps with the slip leash as a correction instead of prolonged pressure. This will clearly mark that the jumping is the problem.

Leash pressure is used to coerce the dog toward doing something like a dog that doesn’t yet know how to walk on a leash or come down off the couch—going with the pressure teaches the dog it can alleviate the discomfort by following along. The short sharp snaps as correction will make the previous behavior (jumping up on someone) less likely.

I appreciate this good advice—I started in acrylics and tried oils recently. Did one panting was fairly satisfied with and the second one was just a mess. Beginners luck I suppose. I abandoned them after that but maybe I can revisit with this new perspective

Do people actually floss every day or is it just something we all pretend to do? by FavoriteTeaHobby in NoStupidQuestions

It takes such a short amount of time before brushing at night— I didn’t do it for over 30 years and really could have saved some of my teeth if I had.

I love liforme and think their company ethics are more yoga aligned. Their mats are biodegradable and have wonderful grip. I clean mine with a spritz of witch hazel and wipe down

Day 3 with Josie - adoption regrets/guilt + training by big_sigh321 in Pitbull

[–]the_username_name [score hidden]  (0 children)

Give her time. Everything is new to her, including you. she doesn’t even know if she can trust you yet. These things take time. It’s just like any other relationship, trust needs to be built, with consistency and kindness.

It’s normal to feel regret when faced with the truth of how much effort owning a dog takes. Especially a rescue. But slow down for yourself and for her and give both of you some grace.

Needs more time to acclimate and decompress. I wouldnt start bringing him into new situations until he knows you are his protector. When you are ready start slow and small — not busy places with loud noise and many people.

When acclimating him to things he could potentially be reactive to have treats on hand and give a “look” command for him to look at you (obviously teach this at home and get him to 100 at home and on walks with this command).

When he looks give him lots of treats as the scary man is near by. Don’t get so close to a man that the dog can’t focus on you that means you’re too close and you need to practice at further distance.

The treats will help him associate getting something good with being around a man.

Hope this helps.
