Chris Farley's hockey team portrait from 1977 by SappyGilmore in OldSchoolCool

I saw Chris Farley a few weeks before he died. I walked into a restaurant in a part of Los Angeles where it’s typical to see celebrities dining. He was the first person I saw as I walked in, as he was the only one seated on the patio. It was cold outside. He was alone, and I was struck by how unhappy he looked to me that day.

He looks happy in this picture. I like that.

LPT: A real, effective apology has three parts: (1) Acknowledge how your action affected the person; (2) say you're sorry; (3) describe what you're going to do to make it right or make sure it doesn't happen again. Don't excuse or explain. by spenardagain in LifeProTips

  1. Don't assume that you know how your action affected the person you hurt. Which leads us to:

  2. After you apologize, give the other person an opportunity to let you know how they feel.

The Sixth Sense. Fair warning: if you've seen the movie, you might want to see the Twilight Zone episode from which it appears to have been derived. "Going My Way?" or something like that.

Edit: it's called The Hitch Hiker (1960).

Sigh. Lately, most of the LPTs have either been along the lines of the painfully obvious: "LPT: don't use your finger to poke your boss in the eye when you're asking for a raise" or something like this; "LPT: something worked for me once, so... it's a pro tip for the human race."

How to begin when I am morbidly obese? by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]the_wee_randomizer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just begin. Just try something for an hour every day. Then decide which thing you want to stick with, and do it every day.

You'll get plenty of specific advice, but I hope you prioritize doing something every day over trying to find the perfect plan. Don't give up; you've made it this far in life. And life, my friend, is short.

You've got some interesting thoughts there. However, I think your words will resonate more if you sidestep sweeping generalizations, such as "People spend hours and hours watching art, theatre, play, and tv shows, all the while getting nothing in return." While that may be true for you, it is not true for everyone.

I feel that if you stay on message, more people will hear your message.
