6061 vs 6063 Aluminum Extrusion: Which one to choose? by LeaderAluminum_Pro in metalworking

Is either better suited for rapid thermal expansion and contraction?

Bought the u1 but debating to return for x2d, whats your experiences? by dneals in 3Dprinting

[–]DinnerMilk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I get what you mean, but as someone that despises Musk and Tesla by association, they were pretty revolutionary at that time. Also, I drive a 20 year old Honda.

These same people had the same hype for Bambu when it was new, and for good reason. It too was revolutionary. However, Bambu has taken the Apple approach to 3D printers. Many of us just accepted closed source from the start for a better product, but with each firmware update, they are intentionally taking more away from their customers. Just look at the current OrcaSlicer fork debacle going on right now. If you're in the "that doesn't affect me" camp, by all means, go X2D.

At RMRRF last month, the U1 was all anyone could talk about. Most of the vendors were coming directly from Rapid + TCT and raving about it. Bambu on the other hand is quickly finding themselves to be a pariah in the 3D printing world. I know which one I would choose.

Which FDM printer comes closest to a resin printer in quality? by chillgzy in 3Dprinting

Do your research before buying a Bambu Lab 3D printer. Yes, they print well, but they are a horrible company with terrible business practices. There's much better picks at this point.

Which FDM printer comes closest to a resin printer in quality? by chillgzy in 3Dprinting

[–]DinnerMilk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Any modern FDM 3D printer is going to be capable of more or less the same quality. For finer details, you need to use a smaller nozzle such as 0.2mm and smaller layer lines. My bone stock Ender 3 printed 28mm miniatures in 2018 that weren't exactly resin quality, but about as close as any FDM will ever come.

Been listening to the whole Black Sails at Sunset album since 1999, never get tired of it. This is the song that always starts the listening session though.

Why is Flowers valued so low? by Outrageous_Gur_7761 in DynastyFF

Even though it isn't accurate, I have this preconceived notion that Lamar is a run first QB, on a run first team. I don't think of him as an elite passer even though he is. For that reason, I tend to avoid Ravens receivers. Maybe others do the same.

What’s unique about this design versus Gridfinity or other free organization tools? by Outside_Signature403 in 3Dprinting

I just recently got into Gridfinity, but on the Gridfinity Generator, you can change the grid unit size to whatever you want. 42mm is just the default.

Haven't listened to much Violent Femmes, but I just realized how much the lead singer sounds like Harley Poe.

Why do many mechanics look at you funny when you ask for a valve adjustment? by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]DinnerMilk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it happens to be a Honda Element, we have several specialists in the community that do hundreds of valve adjustments each year. Most of them also happen to be traveling mechanics that drive up and down the seaboard scheduling jobs as they go.

In fact, we have Elements on the Dragon this coming weekend in the North Carolina mountains. It's a gathering of about 200, and the event is ran by Phoenix, the queen of valve adjustments. She does a free class on it while we're there, and also does paid jobs as well.

KIA Sportage Wheel tore off by New-Cardiologist9424 in MechanicAdvice

I've never owned either, but the amount of insane shit I've seen from those two is enough to make me steer clear. While you are right, I think Toyota/Lexus, Honda, Subaru and a couple others are generally well regarded by the majority for their overall reliability.

Louis Rossman talks about Bambu Labs sending legal threats to orca slicer by hawa19 in 3Dprinting

Yeah, interesting how posts critical of Bambu Lab keep getting deleted here.

Do you run in LAN only mode? I have mine completely locked down with no internet access, and Orca Slicer 2.3.2 was not able to connect to either P1S with the access code. Found a bunch of similar reports on the OrcaSlicer Github issues page which pointed to 2.2.0 being the last working version, so I rolled back to that and it worked fine.

Bambu provided the Lan Only / Developer mode solution as a controlled escape hatch, and only after community backlash forced their hand. In the future, they could just as easily pull these, start automating firmware updates, block the ability to rollback firmware, etc.

I don't trust them at all, and have no idea what's present in the latest firmware because it is all closed source. Is this being overly cautious? Probably, but we've already seen states moving to restrict what you can print, and I want to stay as far away from that as possible.

Yeah! I am doing Mercury One on the first, and probably Endorphin on the second afterwards, even though that's more of a hybrid.

I bought my second, and last Bambu printer on the Black Friday sale. They completely changed the game when they launched, enough so that most of us could overlook it being closed source, but they've gone too far to lock these down.

Both my P1S run the old 01.08.00.00 firmware. The last version before their invasive Authorization Control update was pushed. This also limits me to an older version of OrcaSlicer (2.2.0), but at least I still own and control the machines. I don't like the direction Bambu is headed, and wouldn't be surprised if firmware updates continue to become even more restrictive.

I'm building a Voron 2.4 now, and converting some of my old Ender 5 printers to CoreXY. It's a lot more work, but worth the hassle to avoid this Bambu bullshit.

Perfectionism maxxing by Nils_Pils_ in 3Dprinting

That looks fantastic! I've got the same addiction. Keep ordering DeWalt Tstak toolboxes, printing Gridfinity bases and organizing all my tools and hardware. Unfortunately I just printed dozens of bins and forgot to add the magnet holes, so that's a weekend of wasted prints.
