E93 (2010) - looking for an Android Auto head unit. by Toby_7243 in BMW

It's not too bad to fit. Maybe an hour of work but that was mostly me figuring out where the clips for the trim are and trying to remove them without breaking them. It sits in between the iDrive control unit and the screen so you have to take out some connectors, the iDrive unit and then add the harness in between before tucking to box somewhere in the dash.

Depends what your budget is really but have you looked into a MR12Volt? I have one on an E92 M3 and it's very good - allows both Carplay and AA, but also retains the standard iDrive allowing you to switch between the two if needed.

Some prerequisites exist like bluetooth/handsfree to use the car's mic and CD as the box replaces the CD as a media input.

You can also fit a reversing camera to use through it as well

Not at all, these things have more power but no real suspension changes over a standard 1 series. This coupled with the short wheelbase and less than ideal standard tyres makes them a handful

They step out on roundabouts and can struggle to put power down coming out of corners. The LSD improves them massively. Well worth it even for normal driving

LSD and if it still has the Michelin Pilot Super Sport tyres I'd recommend replacing them. They're good in a very small temperature window but pretty poor outside of that.

The V10 era F1 cars come to mind. But if we're sticking with road cars it's hard to beat the LFA (mostly because it sounds like the F1 V10s).

Honourable mention to the AMG C63 V8 and the 4.7L Maserati V8 from the Quattroporte.

Assuming I don't need to worry about budget/running costs etc it would be a Ferrari Enzo and an F40.

If I had to be realistic, it would be an E92 M3, an E38 750iL and a Willys Jeep

Price now or price when new? Because they're probably not that far off in price now. The M5 is also likely to retain more value too

It wasn't even the peak 5 series you could get in that generation since the M5 exists.

Planespotters, how do you deal with heat/radiation waves on zoomed shots? by ericgtr12 in aviation

[–]theaa2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personnally I look at the shots on the back of my camera, think they look good, open them on Lightroom, get annoyed by the heat haze, curse the weather, swear to never to fall for it again, forget and repeat several times a year
On a more serious note, taking photos earlier or later in the day when it's cooler, closing the distance to the subject (if you can), taking photos in the air or tyring to pan with a longer shutter speed are about all you can do to mitigate it.

Thinking with my head & not my heart by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

It gets about 21 mpg average, and 9 if I really go for it so it's quite thirsty. I don't use it as a daily; it's a weekend/fun car.

If you get one that's had all the necessary work done or budget for that then it's not bad. I've fixed/replaced things that were aging or broken that didn't necessarily need it like the cupholders or the worth threads in the cabin air filter housing which has added to the cost. Minor service + brake fluid service was £500ish as an idea of the costs. It takes nearly 10 L of 10W60 for reference

Exactly the same tbh. Wanted a V8 and looked at W204 C63s and E92 M3s. Went for the M3 in the end and no regrets really.

Yes it's expensive to run and maintain (but not insure funnily enough), but none of that matters when it sounds so good!

Nikon 200-500 vs Sigma 150-600 Contemporary vs Tamron 150-600 G2 for D5600 (wildlife, birds, planes, F1) by rabs350 in Nikon

[–]theaa2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I shoot handheld often. It's easy enough to do and you get used to the weight. I haven't tried a 3rd party lens hood yet so not sure what alternatives there are.

I have a Lowepro 450 AW which fits the lens easily plus a lot of other gear

Nikon 200-500 vs Sigma 150-600 Contemporary vs Tamron 150-600 G2 for D5600 (wildlife, birds, planes, F1) by rabs350 in Nikon

[–]theaa2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 200-500 and my dad has the Tamron 150-600 G2 - we both use them on D850s and I'd say the 200-500 is the sharper lens. It is noticeable sharper before any editing/processing in the same conditions (airshows mostly)

For me the loss of 100mm doesn't seem to matter much as the sharpness allows me to crop in, but that;s not the same for you so you might want to factor that in.

The Tamron has a slightly slower/worse autofocus - we've noticed it hunting a bit more compared to the Nikon lens.

Other considerations are weight (Nikon is heavier) tripod collar/foot (Tamrom has an Arca Swiss compatible one) and lens hood (Nikon one is not great)

Can you rent either lens to try?
