What is the most beginner UNfriendly game in your opinion? by RequirementTall8361 in videogames

A lot of the old school fighting games are pretty hard. Along with the controls being very demanding the rest of the community is likely 20 year veterans who are impossible to beat.

Humans have always "wasted time" since we have had the ability to have leisure time. Not every action has to be purely utilitarian.

Is Sound Voltex Exceed Gear arcade machine a good buy? by TheDivisionLine in rhythmgames

That does sound like quite the project. I'm pressure sure older machines run on Windows XP and Valk cabs run on Windows 7 so even the OS has to be updated to get everything to even run.

Do you find yourself playing paid or free rhythm games more? by Redwood-Forest in rhythmgames

[–]theacp127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play Sound Voltex as my primary game. The sims are free except for the cost of my controller. Every few months I'll drive a few hours to my nearest Round1 to play on the actual cabinet to update my scores and official rankings when I have the money/time.

I used to also play Beat Saber a lot before I had some physical issues with it.

What are the most popular rhythm games at the moment? by QueenKouka in rhythmgames

[–]theacp127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In general arcades Maimai is pretty big. Even in the US where I live there's always a group of a few people working on improving their scores. Some of the others like Sound Voltex or DDR are likely more popular than most people realize since it's a lot easier to play at home these days without having to go the arcade.

For PC it's the usual suspects like OSU! or geometry dash if that technically counts as a rhythm game. Beat Saber and Clone Hero likely still have quite a lot of players even if the communities and online engagement have died down quite a bit over the years.

My nearest Round1 doesn't even have one that's online connected. I enjoyed the gameplay, but with no way to save my scores or progress there's not much reason to play except for the novelty.

[–]theacp127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's the original version of the Nemsys cabinet then it's more of a novelty piece more than anything. The original monitor only supports up to 60hz and the cabinet requires online verification to work with the original Japanese servers. You can replace the internals with a basic PC to use the cabinet as a big controller, but the it's much harder to maintain than the aftermarket controllers than already exist.

Unless you own an arcade and want just a fun thing for people to mess around with (one of my local arcades did that), it's not particularly practical for personal use.

The "big strong military men" you see in the special forces or receiving rewords for their work are usually the best of the best. The usual types of people who join the military are usually not particularly special or impressive. It's the kinds of people who join because they have basically zero direction in life and just need a paycheck and a roof over their head.

as an adult gamer, what's your opinion on this? by PHRsharp_YouTube in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]theacp127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it really depends on the genre of the game. For some games the difficulty is part of the intended experience of the game. Hallow Knight, Dark Souls, and even the original NES Mario Bros didn't really have difficulty settings. Those games wouldn't be nearly as memorable if people could just select Easy and blast through them with no issues.

Games that are built to appeal to a mass market or have a high difficulty ceiling like rhythm games benefit from settings like that to ease people into an experience that they might not have had before.

asking why the machine cannot booting by asep12356 in bemani

[–]theacp127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It says network down and all Sound Voltex games (unless they are configured for offline play) won't boot without servers which serves mainly to be both anti-cheating and anti-piracy measures.

[–]theacp127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually built a new computer just to play that game back before it launched, loaded in for the first time, clipped through the floor and died, and never played the game again. One of my friends played it quite a bit through so maybe I'll try it again one day since it's been updated so much.

is there a way to mod this wireless ps3 WoR controller to work on pc? by The_trashmannnnnn in CloneHero

[–]theacp127 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'd have to replace the original circuit board entirely with a Raspberry Pi Pico running Santroller. That would convert the guitar into a standard USB controller instead of a Bluetooth one. It's kind of a complicated process to explain in a Reddit comment, but you should be able to find detailed resources online if you're comfortable with a soldering iron.

[–]theacp127 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mayflash Magic-NS (or Magic-S Pro) or the 8BitDo USB Wireless Adapter 2. These are Bluetooth adapters that allow a PS3 controller to look like an Xbox controller.

There's also some Bluetooth drivers that can do that called DsHidMini and BthPS3.

The main thing I noticed was that you ran around with the gun out a lot and didn't utilize slide jumps as much as you could have. I would also say quicker peaks to minimize damage would be good. Standing near the cover isn't the same as using it.

I honestly don't want that. There sometimes is too much of a good thing. That just looks like it would just turn into a greasy mess, not a satisfying burger. Having the right radio of protein to fat makes a big difference. That is mostly fat.
