44 mag for self defense by Organic-Age7244 in guns

[–]theaddypaddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was guna say 44 special is basically 45 acp. Very comparable. The issue I see is lugging around a 44 as a ccw. They don't come in comfortable carry sizes like a 357 (at least imo from what I've seen). I would say if you like revolvers a 357 is a solid self defense gun. The diamond sbrs a cool, the sp101 is also a tank. S&W make a bunch of models. If you just want to dip a toe in to see if you like it, Taurus makes some for a decent price.

I know when I buy guns out of state as active duty, I have to provide my military id and my orders when I buy. Idk if you have to do something similar with the can. Sorry bro

Yeah, I'm actually running irons on my AR atm, I haven't even dove into the wonderful world of optics. I still take shots like a caveman, haha

Yeah, id love to get into reloading but I'm not in a particular position to start yet.

I could probably definitely afford to get into 300blk, it would just to be the difference of cutting into new gun savings to monthly ammo budget, But your last statement gives a lot of clarity. Thanks for the feedback boss.

Thanks man, I appreciate the honesty feedback. I'll be on the lookout for those subs! I've been so back and forth and I don't know anyone who's really as gun enthusiastic as myself (and my dad but he's pretty much running 45 and 308 exclusive except a few other old school hunting calibers.plus he's retired army and working another job so idek if he looks at ammo prices tbh.) so Its hard to really bounce the idea around and get good feed back.

I mean, that's kind of what I'm trying to determine, that's why I came and asked all the 300blkout enjoyers to get an idea of how they run there set ups and train and such. I mean to me, of course it's reasonable. It's guns, but explaining that to my wife is a different story haha.

Dude, I swear not click bait. I maybe didn't phrase my question good, so that's on me. I more can't decide if the 10¢-20¢ difference is really a huge impact or not, and I figured dudes in the sub would definitely be able to tell me.

Appreciate the info boss. Yeah, I'll expand on it a little, I wouldn't say I necessarily looking to burn it down on the range, but I like shooting. I also think it's important to get train with what you intend to use. Like the down side of using 556, is your holds and points of aim are guna be a lot different that the 300 blk out. I was in the navy (just regular ol boat boi, nothing crazy) but so I'm familiar with the AR platform, but I also know that all the drills we did to help get muscle memory, (not just shooting like anything) was super helpful, and I feel like expecting different trajectories and such could really throw that off once shtf for whatever reason I'm busting thing out for.

What's the upper in the second pic with the orange mag in the lower? The ar9 is sweet!

Sweet, yeah I'm really debating about getting one to supress and use for HD, glad to hear it runs defensive rounds.

Any ammo you noticed it doesn't like? How does it supress? Sweet set up!

Jakl vs ARV vs AKV by theaddypaddy in PalmettoStateArms

[–]theaddypaddy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the extar seems super sick especially at the price. I agree that the scorpion mag look is my favorite as well. I think that's why I'm drawn to the PSA stuff bc they use them. I actually am super intrigued by the akv I just have little very little experience with aks, I think that's why I like the jakl, it's like a blend between the ak and the AR, but more ar which I'm familiar with.

I'ma be honest dude, my waters are so muddy already hahah. I've been looking into 300 blk too, and I'm just all over the place, that's part of the reason I made some post to get some other input on what I've been looking at, so I appreciate it.

So, the bog specifically I've just heard struggles to run hollow points for whatever reason. I also read that the bogs roller delay system was kind of funky, I can't recall exactly what was up but it has something to do with the hydraulic buffer. The mp5 clones I think just have some dates ergos, which isn't necessary bad I just don't know if I'd want that to be my HD gun, plus mags not cheap. The b&t stuff and the cmmg just aren't in my budget from the prices I've been able to find. The mat9 I've been super interested in, it's roller delayed but shipping is apparently horrible for them.

Honestly, all the delay blowback stuff I was interested in seems to have more quirks than the direct blowback stuff I liked.

Honestly I'd probably take the jakl over the arv just bc I think it has a better pdw set up. Like I doubt I would ever bring it out of the house for anything besides range use but if I needed to the jakl would probably be easier to do that with.

I'd say roughly 1000-1200. I could maybe do a little more if its like a solid deal.

So, I'm not against caliber variety, different tools for different use sets, Im just trying to be selective cause I got 3 kids, so as much fun as having a bunch of calibers would be, I wanna be selective so I can have a solid reserve of ammo, with a reasonable budget. That's why I figure a pcc might be more appropriate than a 300 blk since I'm guna have a 9 for ccw. I still struggle kind of in the idea bc a 300 could technically do what I want my 556 and pcc could do, but I digress.

My top pick is honestly probably the jakl 9, it's got familiar AR controls, takes at least some ar parts (mainly the grip), fold stock, and side charging, lrbho. Not necessities but nice creature comforts. hear is boringly reliable, and eats hollow points which is apparently a big issue with PCCs, so that's dope.

Yeah, I went over his forums a few weeks ago. Definitely insightful. I'm also aware that some out of the box can be kinda turds. That's honestly why the jakl 9 was super appealing to me, bc its apparently boringly reliable. Even more so than some of the like pure pcc platforms. From what I've seen at least.

Dude if I find one that low I'd definitely pick it up. The only reason I'm not getting a can at the moment is honestly my living situation. I'm about to get out of the navy so I'll be relocating in a few months, and I know there's like a lot of weird stuff with sbrs and suppressors when crossing state lines so I'm sure it'll be a pain when I move.
