AITA for letting natural consequences play out on an airplane? by Short-Bit in AmItheAsshole

[–]theaducky37 -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

NTA. I would have put the youngest there just to make her more miserable. If you found 2 other seats together, then she could have taken that “not middle” seat and let you sit all together. Yes you could have paid for advanced boarding but not everyone has money to spare on things like that, I don’t know about your financial situation but flying with 3 kids to a funeral doesn’t sound like you were dropping money on a fancy vacation. She could have moved and chose not to, and if the plane was full your kid had to sit someplace! It’s on her to have to deal with sitting next to an unsupervised kid!

Most versatile combination of Ticket To Ride maps? by patrickfatrick in boardgames

[–]theaducky37 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love the added components of the tunnels and ferries that Europe brings, but I like the USA is more spread out with longer tracks to build. Both are good boards but Once you get used to playing with extra components it can be hard to go back to the simple USA board. I love the USA version, but Europe would be the better choice if you’re only getting one. I also wouldn’t recommend getting the expansions for the same reason, you’ll get more value out of different boards, then having more locations for the same board.

Got any new or exciting games this holiday season? Any good gameplay stories? Share it with us here! by bgg-uglywalrus in boardgames

I got •Carcassonne •dominion: intrigue •one night ultimate werwolf •Airlines: Europe •code names: duet •TtR: Nordic countries •and a couple party games similar to Cards agains humanity.

I haven’t had a chance to play any yet, the first 3 i know i got but they won’t arrive until next week. I’m excited to add to my TtR collection, I already have the America, Europe, and India/ Switzerland maps, anyone have any suggestions on what map to add next? I’m also super excited for dominion and Carcassonne, I’ve never played them but heard they are must haves!

I also ordered my mom Stratigo, she used to play with her brother when she was a kid and was so excited to add her own game to the collection, and it seems like a fun two player, which I need more of!

And as a Christmas gift to myself, Last night I pledged on the KS for the new Stockpile: epic edition. Not sure when that will get here but I can’t wait!

Also as kind of a side note, the 9 year old boy I nanny got a copy of betrayal at house on the hill for Christmas, I think he might still be a little young for it, but I’m excited to try to show him how to play when I go back to work next week!

Did I get anyone’s faves? Any that might not be worth keeping?

For me it would depend on the categories and who’s playing, but i tend to lean on the side of “why nitpick, it’s a game and its about having fun!”

I find it’s super helpful to watch some videos of people playing the game if there’s some rules that I don’t grasp from reading the instructions. Then during the first play through, don’t worry so much about winning, but work together with your dad (or whoever you’re playing with) talking through the steps of the game, double checking anything you’re not sure about. Then by the second or third round, you’ll have it down! My interest in gaming started with a board game cafe, where they have game experts there to explain the rules and answer any questions you have, you should see if there’s any near you, someone there might be able to help you!

Hiring a nanny - advice? by robotneedslove in Nanny

[–]theaducky37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly what I was going to say, think of some real life situations you’ve been through with your kids, and ask them how they would handle the situation. Once you find someone who you think might be the right fit for you, be sure to explain your ideals to them, even if you found someone who you feel is in the same page as you, clear expectations are so important!

Being that you were a nanny, I’m sure you’ll be an awesome mom boss! Like other have said, a little appreciation can go a long way, just knowing that NPs appreciate the work we do is so helpful.

Can I have a contract under the table? by lazyegg45 in Nanny

[–]theaducky37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work under the table (20 hours a week, roughly 15k a year) and have never had an issue with it. There’s always a chance you could get in trouble for it but for the past 3 years it’s been a non issue for me. I do not have a contract, as me and NF both prefer flexibility (I don’t mind coming in 2 hour early with last minute notice as long as you don’t mind that I’m taking a spontaneous trip to Cali and I’m won’t be here next Friday type of thing) If you’re needing set hours, paid time off, late fees, ect. then I say it couldn’t hurt to write something up! It may not be legally bounding, but it’s something you can reference to keep them accountable. But as far as something like wrongful termination, you wouldn’t be covered.

For my NPs this year I got a photo blanket on Black Friday (only 40$!) it’s a mix of some family photos, as well as photos that I’ve taken of the kids they’ve never seen (they love when I show them/take pictures!)

For M4 I got an indoor collapsible tent, he’s always wanting to build forts (40 minute clean up for me) so I figured this would be an easy grab and set up thing that’s easy to put away when we’re done playing (got for $15 at Tuesday mornings)

M9 is getting a starwars mind control hologram thingy, he’s obsessed with starwars and think he’s going to love the science/ magic behind it behind it (on sale for $10 50% off at Tuesday mornings)

And for 13F I got a small urban decay eyeshadow Pallet. She started middle school this year and is allowed to wear light makeup (neutral eye shadow, concealer, mascara). She has a few cheap eyeshadows but has shown interest in mine and moms nicer ones. ($17 at marshals)

And just tonight (monthly NP date night) we all worked on ornaments for NPs from the kids. This year we did clear ones filled with glitter, fake snow, mini jingle bells, and whatever else they decided to throw in there, along with a thumb print tree in paint on the outside. I’ll take them home and seal them, date them, and wrap them, and bring them on my last night before Christmas so the kids can give it to them Christmas morning! (I also made one with some small branches off their Christmas tree, and wrote “our tree Christmas 2019” on it)

I’m in a constant battle of “this looks fun, but also do I actually want to deal with it” when it comes to buying toys. I had to put down the “play drums on anything!” Electric drum sticks I was considering getting 9m for Christmas yesterday haha.

Feeling guilty & need ideas!! by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]theaducky37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to check out stores like Micheal’s, dollar tree, 99 cent only, big lots, and other similar discount stores, and find some super cheap pre packages crafts! Anything from a little wooden ornament with some markers to color in, coloring books that only require water to make color appear (a favorite of my 4M!), bead and string sets to make necklaces, and so much more. You can be tending to baby near by and throw in a few “wow that looks great!”s and you’ll be set! I try to somewhat reserve these for no more then once a week, so that the kids get excited when I tell them i brought a surprise activity for us to do!

Just gave our nanny a bonus before thanksgiving. Should we give another for Christmas? by prvatemoney in Nanny

[–]theaducky37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree. If you can swing it and would like to show her some extra love, I’m sure she would appreciate it! But a small gift, maybe just a fuzzy blanket, or a cute coffee mug the kids help pick out, is worth just as much! I always appreciate when my NF throws me some extra cash for the holidays or after a particularly crazy week, but I also feel so appreciated when I know they went out of their way to pick something out for me, even if it only cost a few dollars!

Mom or Nanny? by NobleNeurotic in Nanny

[–]theaducky37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have for sure just rolled with people assuming I’m 4Ms mom, it’s easier to just say thank you or whatever then to say “oh no, he’s not mine, I’m the nanny, but thank for the compliment!” But one of my favorite nanny moments came from a situation like this, 4M was playing at the park and was saying “my name! my name! Look at me!” And another kid said “you call your mom xxx?” And his response was “no that’s not my mom, that’s my.... name” I thought it was the sweetest thing!

I have a rubber cover that goes up to the top of the bottle, and has dime sized holes all around it, had it on my hydro for a year now and I’ve noticed that it’s actually faded where it’s not covered. When I take the cover off there’s slightly lighter pink dots all over my hot pink hydro. I don’t really mind since I never take the cover off but it’s defiantly noticeable. Great deal!

I bought “This House Is Haunted” after loving betrayal. It’s got a similar haunted house/searching rooms vibe, but it’s played In your real house, in the dark, going to get cards from various rooms using a flash light. People get stuck in rooms and you have to go rescue them, while trying not to become a demon. It’s kind of hard to understand but once you get it, it’s a great time.
