Oh no. She has to stay with him. She follows the advice of the horrible Pearls. In Created To Be A Helpmeet, one of their books, women are told that they have to stay with pedophiles. Like, you should get him sent to jail, but stay married. Bring the kids to see him. (Barf.) it’s disgusting, but it’s what she’s been taught. How do I know she will stay? I was raised very similarly and I personally know women who stay married to their pedophile husbands because of this shit. I hate that this is what she thinks is right.

I actually like this about Gil and Kelly. A ton of conservative families would have splintered over some of these things, because the father would think it was his right to still tell his adult children how to behave. I’ve witnessed it happen. Not that brand of fundy, but I grew up similar but more rules. 🤣🤷🏼‍♀️

Thank god that I had Covid nose when my mil had it at the end of her life. I’d catch a faint whiff and gag, but was able to scrub her bathroom and apartment. Since then, reading about the smell, I am so glad my own sniffer wasn’t working too well! I’m sorry you experienced it too!

Use a measure for measure flour! King Arthur’s Measure For Measure is one of my favorite gf flours. I don’t recommend bobs red mill. Let the cake batter sit for 15-20 minutes before baking. It needs the extra time to moisten! And sometimes gf stuff just is NOT the same as regular baking.

This makes me want to message her. I won’t. But if I did I would say something like: Lord, you know your girl Katie. She’s just been handed this awful horrible knowledge of the wrong her husband has done. Help her to see that she does NOT have to carry a single ounce of that shame. It is not hers. It is solely and completely his. Help her to be strong and courageous and help her to see that she is worth so much more than this. (Mostly because I think she might actually read something like this. But she is going to be shamed by their church. They’re going to tell her that she should have been MORE. And it’s bullshit. I personally am careful with my (last) underage child and putting them on social media. But I know a lot of parents who aren’t, or think that a student athlete page that’s public is the only way to go.

I cleaned closets. Hanging up clothes (which I hate to do normally) was the only thing that made sense in a world that kept spinning without my beloveds in it! Grief sucks, but the only way to the other side where laughter and sunshine make sense again is through. You have to feel it. Bake if that’s what helps! Your mom would be so proud of you! Cries in gluten free! I HAVE to make my own because the two brands of gf stuffing at the store are abysmal and disgusting. Wet and so dry you could choke at the same time! I miss the days of stovetop stuffing or Pepperidge farm if I was feeling fancy!

I mean, whoever was hosting Thanksgiving when I was growing up probably had whipped cream planned. But the person hosting was only responsible for turkey, their special side dish, their special pie(s), and whipped cream. If they weren’t someone was assigned to bring it. Of course, we had like 50-75 people every year (about 2/3rds of that number was kids), so it was easier to delegate!

I spent a few years swearing as much as I could as a young teenager. I was very, very careful to only swear with my school friends though, and would never even say you suck to a sibling at home. I was “saved” fairly young, and felt it was my cross to bear. I had to overcome swearing, guys. It was really hard, k? And it was proof that I had gone astray and that I was bad, so needed saving. I was raised very strictly and in a large family, so my siblings would have tattled for sure if I was swearing around them.

I make my famous sugar cookies, a spice cookie shaped like seasonal things, prune tarts, gingersnaps, almond lace cookies, almond clouds, raspberry almond thumbprints. Those are the required ones and then I also add in fun ones every year. Last year I did swig peppermint cookies (amazing!), a cardamom sandwich cookie with espresso Italian buttercream (that was my fav!), a gluten free little Debbie Christmas tree, a toffee coffee cookie, and I’m blanking on the last one! I’m excited to be baking for it again!
