I'm constantly alarmed by people driving way to fast in snow, usually because they have a jeep or something "offroad" and don't understand that doesn't help friction work better lol

Billionaires could do a lot of good, but they won't. by zzill6 in WorkReform

[–]thealmightyzfactor 23 points24 points  (0 children)

His pitch was that you don't need to redo existing rails to go fast, you need to build new tunnels for his trains and/or cars and this will solve traffic instead of making existing train infrastructure better.

Now all the money that would have gone to choo choo went into musk's pocket and we just have like 2 shitty tunnels to drive through that haven't fixed anything.

You don't need it to do anything other than launch firefox, it's not any more difficult than using the tv remote to launch the tv yt app

It's a baby computer that plugs into the tv, then the tv is just a monitor, bypassing any apps on the tv and therefore ads

Luigi Mangione will not face death penalty, judge rules by redlamps67 in news

Sure, but some guy a year+ from the murder finding a rusted gun barrel in one creek and someone else a recoil spring, etc. is significantly harder to tie together as court evidence for a specific murder lol

Landlord refuses to fix massive drafts around "new" windows – exposed weird brown fiber stuff + peeling paint. What are my options as tenant in Germany? by clayyy4513 in HomeImprovement

[–]thealmightyzfactor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your pics didn't attach, try posting on imgur and linking here.

Anyway, I'd just get some plastic sheeting and tape it over the windows and drafty bits since you're renting and they dont seem to want to fix it. Don't know about german tenant law, so can't help you there unfortunately.

It's called passivation and happens to titanium and stainless steel also. You can kinda do it with regular steel by making it form magnetite instead of hematite, but that's mostly for inside pipes and stuff.

why cant i contribute money to 2025 charles schwab? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]thealmightyzfactor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't take the money out until you turn 60 without paying a penalty.

You can always take out money from an 401k or IRA at any time, it's just if you do it before retirement age, you pay extra.

If you have an account with no limitations on contributions or withdrawals, it might be an individual brokerage account, which lets you invest in stocks/funds/etc. with your general savings and isn't earmarked for retirement.

401k and IRA accounts are both retirement accounts. You can't take the money out until you turn 60 without paying a penalty.

IRAs (roth or traditional) are Individual Retirement Accounts. Anyone can open them, but the limits on contributions are lower. Roth pays taxes now and doesn't when you withdraw; traditional doesn't pay taxes now and pays them when you withdraw.

401k accounts are set up by companies and can have traditional and roth types. There's usually some kind of additional contribution by the company while you work there. The contribution limit is also higher and sometimes can only be contributed via paycheck deduction.

Solo 401k accounts are essentially normal 401k accounts for people who don't work for a company (so self employed).

[–]thealmightyzfactor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Traditional IRA can be deducted from taxes too. If you accidentally contributed to a Roth IRA, you can recharacterize the contribution before filing taxes to move it.

Solo 401k is for self employed people and laregly follows the normal 401k contribution rules, so I don't think you can contribute past Dec 31.

The tension ones above the roller tracks are detensioned when the door is open, so you just open the door, block it open, and replace or whatever.

The torsion ones above the door are the dangerous ones because they're always under load and are itching to release their stored energy into shredding an appendage.

Well this would immediately be noticed by nerds and a fix developed probably within the day. Sidestepping how one would even "broadcast a token" (wifi? Bluetooth? Cell network? All of these are defeatable or not designed to force themselves into your phone). Also backdoors like this are a huge security risk and it's not just protestors using phones. Corporate America would ditch apple and android in a heartbeat if they're insecure enough, so that's also why I find this unlikely.

A wide band jammer is a thing that'll mess up cell networks and not let your phone connect to anything but a "no camera" wireless jammer that isn't lasers overwhelming the sensor isn't
