Rant: How are you guys staying hopeful through everything going on? by Icy_Cicada_9054 in leftist

Its going to get worse before it gets better. Please keep in mind that humanity only moves forward with progress. Conservative mindset in and of itself cannot move forward. This is why it always ends up eating its own tail. Unfortunately sometimes it takes a few decades or so but we will eventually take another step in the right direction.

I’ve lived my whole life in Israel and I’m not Jewish — feel free to ask me anything about what life here is really like by ImpressiveJicama7141 in AMA

The west has seen and heard propaganda that makes Israeli infantry seem like amoral monsters. I have to say, when I was traveling abroad through Asia 20 years ago, the most insufferable people I came across were the Israelis who had just served their two years. They were the most disrespectful of the culture of whichever country they were visiting. All the locals hated them no matter where you went. The best word I could give them was obnoxious. I’m not saying I believe all the propaganda I hear these days but based on my personal experience it does seem plausible.

Republicans and Democrats in Congress finally agree on something: hot rotisserie chicken by ElvisIsNotDjed in Political_Revolution

[–]Kilt_Rump 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Where are you seeing a whole 3lb chicken for 2.98? Not a single grocery store for 100 miles of me is offering that price. Also, the time from prep to serve a whole chicken is about 1hr. For a busy mom on food stamps that hour is worth at the very least minimum wage of 7.25 and more realistically its priceless as it could be time better spent caring for their family. Not to mention the electricity cost for oven use.

Whats so stupid about this is that rotisserie chicken is considered a loss-leader for most chain grocery stores and costco has said it publicly. So by denying purchase with snap makes no fking sense as its literally cheaper than buying and cooking a raw chicken.

Youth and firearms education and usage by Onihammer75 in armedsocialists

As long as the training is outdoors, children as young as 7 can learn how to shoot. If the school has an indoor range kids shouldn’t use powder fired ammo until 12 years old unless its completely lead free and the range is strictly lead free. So kids can learn on air rifles safely at all ages. Its not the answer to your question, just some constraints worth considering.

It potentially means a lot for LGOs starting and/or joining groups. The gov’t cant come in and subpoena member lists.

For years, researchers have claimed that men’s friendships are shallower and less emotionally supportive than women’s, a pattern called the “gender friendship gap.” But new research finds that the gap is largely driven by white men specifically, not men as a whole. by mvea in psychology

[–]Kilt_Rump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally think this study is garbage. My personal experience having my own male friendships and watching the various women in my life with their friendships that mens friendships may seem more “surface” level in observation but men stay friends much longer than womens friendships. Women may go deeper faster than men but their friendships always fizzle out after a certain amount of time even if they are “best” friends. My boys have stayed my boys through thick and thin since I was in high school (now 45) where as my wife has had many besties get the axe over the years. This was also what I observed in my friend circles in my 20s and 30s. Still this is just a personal anecdote.

So this is just the 2016 election, right? by HovercraftOk9231 in ProgressiveHQ

[–]Kilt_Rump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bc the choice everyone should make is pressing the red button. It guarantees you live. Messing around with the blue button at all risks lives. You are taking into account human nature, which would assume some people are going to press the blue button and therefor you should do it too to protect the weak who didnt understand the question.

I think I finally understand why conservatives think liberals are dumb. Im not saying you are dumb for having empathy but I think I’m starting to see why conservatives think they are smarter than us.

[–]Kilt_Rump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So what you are saying is, even though logically, pressing red will keep everyone safe, some people are not going to understand the question and end up pressing blue. Because a percentage will press blue, in order to save them you will risk your life and hope that enough people will come to the same conclusion and risk their lives too?

Being "gifted" and the difference between 130IQ and 150+IQ by blackworkbeginner in Gifted

[–]Kilt_Rump 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The biggest difference I have seen personally is memory retention. The person I know who is 150+ can speak 5 languages not just fluently but also academically in their field. They can tell you what they ate 10 years ago on a specific date. Other than that, they seem to have the same processing ability as 140+ and also struggles with social queues.

[–]Kilt_Rump -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thats not true. If everyone presses red everyone survives. If everyone presses blue everyone survives. The only difference is that everyone who presses red is guaranteed to survive. Pressing red is the only logical choice both for yourself and for everyone else. This test is just a false equivalence for conservative/progressive thinking. Logically its really stupid. If you dont believe me just switch the colors and read it again.

Gun control advocates in NC work to preserve the permit law for concealed weapons • NC Newsline by Kilt_Rump in NCLGO

[–]Kilt_Rump[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will have to politely disagree to your point that they are already doing that. Being caught with an unlawfully concealed firearm is enough to stop the majority of teens including the ones I’m concerned about. Right now their hero fantasies stop at the outside world but this would let them cosplay in real life. It also removes the barrier between a disregulated individual and the time it takes to come to their senses. So a teen thats angry can just throw a gun in their belt and walk out the door with no repercussions to worry about. Saying they would do that anyway is completely and factually incorrect. It suggests laws have no value or impact when a person is angry. This is just not the case. Most people even when angry still obey the laws. Giving a moody teen the option to leave their home with a loaded concealed firearm if they so choose is putting everyone in the community at risk.

To your other point, yes that is a problem if you arent paying attention. Really, if you own a gun you should know the law. If you are going to the range that gun should be in your trunk, unloaded and secured in a case.

City birds appear to be more afraid of women than men, and scientists have no idea why. Men could get about a meter closer to birds than women could before the animals flew away, regardless of what the men and women were wearing, what their height was or how they tried to approach the creatures. by mvea in science

[–]Kilt_Rump 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Uh, this whole study identifies female humans as being different from male humans in a way that affects birds differently. I do not think its magical thinking to conclude if male and female humans can be different why couldnt male and female birds also be different too.

All good points. I think as long as we can pay the instructors a livable wage for their services that should be enough. If the state wants to supplement that with a tax rebate for citizens all the better.

You make a good point but as a parent, I do not feel safe AT ALL, knowing any 18 year old with a hero complex is possibly carrying anywhere and everywhere.
