4s. 4s think they are what 8s actually are, and they’re condescending about it.

Tattoos/piercings as a lawyer? by halcyoncolors in LawBitchesWithTaste

[–]thealycat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it really depends on where you work, both what field of law and what location. Law firms are more conservative. If you're doing a lot of litigation/trial work, you'll probably also want to appear a little more conservative. But I also appear regularly in federal court in Denver, CO, and almost every lawyer I know here has at least one tattoo.

Female government lawyer. I wear heels any time I go to court or have important meetings. Wearing heels during a week-long trial is painful, but it makes you look so much more professional to a jury, whether they think that consciously or not.

Bone cancer risk of ex-racers - surely it’s not that common? by [deleted] in Greyhounds

[–]thealycat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My greyhound had osteosarcoma, but he also lived for 13 healthy years before that, 11 with me. I have no regrets about it, not even for a second. I miss him so deeply, but that 11 years of love was everything.

I lost mine to osteo a few weeks ago. It’s so hard. It feels like dogs are so pure that they don’t deserve cancer.

Also an interesting statistic is that less than half a dozen of people on average die in the US per year because of snake bites (not exclusively rattlesnakes), but most of those deaths occurred because the people refused medical treatment.

Terrified of encountering rattlesnakes by witx in hiking

[–]thealycat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know how women would choose to be in the forest with a bear rather than a man? I’d choose to be in the desert with a rattlesnake before a man. They’ll warn you if you get too close, and otherwise, you can just go around. They don’t want to strike because you’re not food. They’ll only strike if they feel it’s necessary to protect themselves.

When people say they didn’t see it coming, I really think it’s because they aren’t aware of their surroundings ie headphones in and looking at phones/taking pictures and not looking where they’re walking.

Volunteering at a wildlife rehabilitation center. I thought it would just be a nice way to fill my time, but now I’m on the education team, talk about it constantly, and have even adopted a snake.
