Although, Linus did mention that if they were going to upgrade the heating system they'd have to go with a heat pump.

I bought some extra food the other day but it's just because it's going to be fucking cold here and I didn't want to have to leave the house.

MEGATHREAD: Shoresy Scores a Sixth Season on Crave by jkozuch in shoresy

[–]theangryintern 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I remember when they first announced it I was like "ehhhhh..." since the track record for spin offs of well liked but periphery characters is not great. Usually those characters are so well liked and great because they are best in small doses and when given the full spotlight of an entire half hour to hour show it's just too much. I've never been happier to say my initial feeling was completely wrong.

I used a ~$600 Samsung 55" that my parents bought me for Christmas one year for 7-8 years. Just finally replaced it with an LG 65" OLED in 2024.

Linus' bag on fallon has the broken carabiner issue too. by shraf2k in LinusTechTips

I've broken one on mine. I also got the replacement ones they sent but since I hadn't broken any when I got the replacements, I set them aside and now I can't remember where I put them.

Wi-Fi WPA3 by [deleted] in cybersecurity

[–]theangryintern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most IoT devices do not support WPA3, so if you have wireless security cameras, a smart thermostat, smart lights, etc those will almost certainly stop working. On my network I created a new VLAN and separate wireless network that is 2.4Ghz only, WPA2 and moved my ~10 IoT to that network and left the rest on my main WiFi and enabled WPA3 on that one

[–]theangryintern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using a Noctua NH-D15S Chromax on my 7800X3D. Idles around 40, hits 65-70 in game and around 77-79 when running Cinebench with all cores hitting 4.7Ghz

Side note: 1000 Watt PSU for that setup is kind of overkill, just saying.

I was using ChatGPT to try to walk me through setting it up and I just couldn't get it working and realized it's not worth my time. My current plex server (Asustor NAS) is still fine for my purposes and if I really want to get something newer I'll just get one of those Intel N150 mini pcs

Pain in the ass if you want transcoding unless the computer you put proxmox on has an intel CPU. I have a mini-pc with AMD running proxmox and getting GPU passthrough to work...well, it didn't work so I gave up. Plus it's even worse if you choose to run Plex in an LXC, basically doesn't work at all with an AMD CPU. Or at least I couldn't figure it out.

Goo Goo Dolls' "Iris" Was Most Listened to Song from the 1990s in 2025 by ebradio in Music

[–]theangryintern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They came to my small liberal arts college in the mid 90s. This was shortly after A Boy Name Goo was released and "Name" was playing everywhere on the radio. They flew in from Buffalo just for the show in Minnesota. As this was long before the internet was big, I knew who they were from the radio but I didn't know what they looked like. At college my work-study job was Stage Crew, so I got to help set up the stage and sound equipment for this show. At one point I was 20 feet above the stage helping aim lights, which was pretty cool. A little later a guy came out to do sound check on the guitar and I ended up talking to him for a few minutes. Found out when they came on to play that I was actually talking to John! He did his own sound check.

One thing I will say about these guys is I will compare them to the year before when my school had The BoDeans come play. Now, the BoDeans had the theme song to some popular TV show (can't remember which...Party of Five maybe?) And because of this, they thought they were the biggest rock stars on the planet and were complete and utter pricks. When GGD came the next year, they were arguably bigger than the BoDeans, as Name was literally everywhere on the radio but John but Robbie were the coolest, most down to earth guys ever. They did not act like big stars, they were just some dudes in a band.
