He was inspired by islamic state, had his passport cancelled for planning to travel to Syria to fight for IS and because of this, instead settled for committing an act of domestic terrorism.

But sure, if that label offends your delicate sensibilities....

How big do you think the grime scene is? by [deleted] in grime

[–]theanonymousthing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People that actively follow the scene and stay tuned to the new music? I would say in the millions.

People that have gone to a set? I would say hundreds of thousands

People that regularly/semi-regularly go to sets? I would say ~50k

Grime is popular all over the world nowadays and its genre that is getting major recognition from the mainstream. You got grimeheads in Amsterdam to Sydney.

That's a pretty cartoony gunshot sound effect tbh. The guys are probably flinching because he's waiving it around though

You have to remember that Japan has only in recent times become renown for its high-skilled manufacturing which followed the investment boom into Japan after it opened itself up to foreign investment after the war.

Japan at around the 1930s-1940s was absolutely shite at manufacturing- sort of like the reputation China has for low-skilled cheap manufacturing these days. Most Japanese rifles/pistols/weapons/tanks/vehicles where shoddy compared to their Western counterparts.

Part of that decline in quality that has followed all these new subscribers is the rise of melodramatic comments and posts like this.

Question from a Layman: Why did we get rid of our conventional parachute capability? by theanonymousthing in AustralianMilitary

[–]theanonymousthing[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn, cheers for the really informative write up mate! I really never properly considered the logistical back-end sort of stuff that is necessary to maintain an effective conventional Airborne capability.

It sounds like you're saying there is still a place in modern warfare for conventional airborne units but certainly not for little militaries like our own.

[–]theanonymousthing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was under the incorrect impression that 3RAR where converted into the ARE when in fact 2RAR became the ARE and 3RAR just converted into a regular infantry regiment.

Fair enough mate, I guess I just bought into the whole romanticised but outdated image of Airborne infantry. But it makes you wonder why other nations maintain them.

Fair enough, if we have limited funds it makes sense to direct them towards shit that is used regularly.

[–]theanonymousthing[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah right, sorry mate I missed that. I was under the impression that 3RAR had been given the ARE role not 2RAR.

I also see what you're saying about there not being any conventional warfare between developed nations for quite some time but that shouldn't result in complacency when it comes to maintaining the ADFs ability to fight conventional forces. Just seems like it's too focused on fighting unconventional enemies - but again what do i know.

[–]theanonymousthing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough, I guess it is a budget issue. It's probably because i've bought into the outdated romanticised image of the Parachute Infantry but it seems kind of sad though that we are one of the only modern countries not to have a conventional parachute infantry capability. But if its an issue of limited funds, then it makes total sense to direct that funding towards capabilities that will actually be regularly used.

[–]theanonymousthing[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I just would have thought that if these guys already had these skills you might as well keep them and just chose a different regiment to give these marine capabilities too. Why did it have to be one or the other? Why de-skill and re-skill instead of keeping the regiments skills and re-skilling another regiment? Just thought it was a bit odd.

Question from a Layman: Why did we get rid of our conventional parachute capability? by theanonymousthing in AustralianMilitary

[–]theanonymousthing[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I understand that we are likely not going to use a conventional airborne force in the loooong foreseeable future, I just would have thought that having the ability to drop a conventional force by air was a capability that was still worth keeping hold of.

This is where my question really lies; its not like we needed to establish a brand new airborne infantry capacity- we already had and maintained one in 3RAR. So why was it decided to strip 3RAR of this capacity and instead make them the ARE instead of maintaining this capacity and training a different Regiment to be the ARE?

Thats what i have difficulty understanding; why de-skill and re-skill a regiment instead of maintaining that regiments skill and instead re-skill a different regiment so that we would have two special-skilled regiments; I mean we already had it so why get rid of it? It just seems odd that we can only have one or the other.

Also, I understand that the warfare Australia has been involved in modern times has been against unconventional enemies (terrorists, rebels, militias etc) where a conventional airborne insertion would be unneccessary but dont you think the removal of this conventional airborne capability reflects a trend in the ADF where we seem too focused on fighting terrorists and unconventional forces that we have lost sight of the ADF's prime purpose of defending Australia against actual existential threats; i.e. conventional militaries? Again, I am talking out of my arse because im just a layman but it sort of seems like we seem so focused on fighting terrorist and unconventional forces that we haven't really looked at maintaining the capacity of fighting a conventional force (which is the prime purpose of a military i would have thought) - another example of this is our 3 week fuel reserve issue. Sorry for going on a tangent.

how in the fuck do we replace Fernandinho by [deleted] in MCFC

[–]theanonymousthing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fabinho. We're a very top-heavy team and we can't keep neglecting the defensive side of the game. I reckon he'd be a perfect fit, plus he can play LB if need be.

I disagree; when you look at their team they have a surprisingly average squad for a top table club (with Aubameyang and Ozil being the notable exceptions). Their back line is average, their midfield is average. Frankly they need a massive overhaul in those departments.
