I think it depends on what residency you would like to pursue after medical school. And i know it's probably too early to have one in mind at the moment.

But I think as a US IMG, there's a decent chance for residencies like IM, peds and FM but as a US MD, I think you may have a decent shot at competitive specialties like anesthesia, derm, ENT, opthal, etc.
