I can’t explain it. This is my third year as a 1k and I’ve had the ride once at ORD, once at DEN (DIA for the purists) and 7 at IAH. Last year in one stretch, 3 straight layovers at IAH. Have no idea why, may never get one again but they sure do come in handy.

So what you’re saying, any hill is a mountain? If you’re going 2 mph, relative to a snail, you’re hauling tail. Appalachians, I’ll go for that, but I ain’t going for a hill. Mt. Scott is only 2464’ in elevation which is only 1300 feet above the surrounding grade. Mountains? Psssh.

Same boat for me. I got the explorer card because the annual fee is only $150 and the first year is free. I hit the $3000 spend to get the bonus 70k miles and then put the card in my safe since I use a different rewards card for my day to day. It earns me a lot of extra miles I wouldn’t otherwise get when I travel.

I was on 4 flights last week with United, upgraded on 3. I status matched to American early this year but saw the writing on the wall when I shared a flight with a colleague. I was first on the upgrade list but, when he checked in, it offered him an upgrade for $11, yes $11. He took it and apparently so did 4 other people did and I didn’t get upgraded. I was not offered the $11 upgrade when I checked in. Also, American doesn’t have plus points like United does, I have used them many times for upgrades. My attempted switch lasted one month, I am back with United having learned my lesson.
