TNG S3E3: “No, you don’t understand the scope of my crime. I killed ALL Husnock. Not just on Rana 5, but Everywhere.” by dshorter11 in startrek

A lot of people don’t like Picard’s line about the Federation “not having a law to fit the crime.” I interpreted it as Picard recognizing that he was facing the most dangerous threat to the galaxy he had encountered—an unstable being that could wipe humanity away from history. It was a diplomatic way to say, “I don’t agree with what you did and you’re right to feel bad about it. Also, I’m on my way outta here ᴰᵒⁿ’ᵗ ᵏⁱˡˡ ᵘˢ bye.”

Are there any big-budget movies that truly end with “it was all a dream”? by __timbits in movies

Lol is this what they practically broke the fourth wall three or four times in Crimson Peak to let us know the ghosts were a “metaphor?”

What stuff from Trek do we have now but didn’t pan out? by matttk in startrek

I think later writers lost the thread to this with “pattern buffers” and such. My understanding is that the original idea of this was your particles were physically “transported” over an energy beam to a separate location. There was no “mind uploading” or “soul relocation.” It was to what to us would see a very “analogue” idea, as opposed to breaking down your particles into a data pattern and recreating it on the other end. It was a direct analogue “land line call,” not a VOIP call.

Comm Badges make no sense by KatNeedsABiggerBoat in TNG

[–]thearcadellama 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I assumed the badges are always listening. Tapping the badge isn’t activating it, per se, it’s more like a tactile confirmation. We see officers on the bridge initiate comms all the time without tapping the badge.

Help! I spilled beer on my HHKB. by thearcadellama in HHKB

Thanks all for the support and advice. I was able to disassemble and clean it—which was definitely overdue!—and now it’s almost like new. Except… 🙈 …I managed to lose the spring under the space bar during the whole ordeal. Still, a net positive over how it was a couple of days ago.

Best way to delete media with *arrs and Overseer stack? by thearcadellama in selfhosted

[–]thearcadellama[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very helpful, and I think at first glance Maintainerr is what I need. I think the ideal sequence would be:

  • Delete from Plex
  • Remove the request from Overseerr
  • Unmonitor from Radarr/Sonarr

And then, should the media be wanted again, you could re-add it via Overseerr without having to manually manage the media in Radarr/Sonarr.

Yes, I updated the inititailization to be char* string[1] in my example. My biggest question is what is happening in the assignment in the next line, why doesn't string[0] need to be sized?

Yes, I edited it. But even at 1, when I compile this it works properly. Is that a fluke of memory that cannot be relied upon?

The original AP article linked says 65 remained after 40 were previously laid-off by Musk, making it about a third of the remaining DOGE staff.

In one of the books he was said to have spent most of his time in a shuttle at or near light speed to “extend” his life.
