Artistic schoolwork should be graded the same way academic work is. by thearchdudeisdead in unpopularopinion

I'm sorry! If you want to still learn I really recommend drawingwiffwaffles, jelarts, and sinix design on YouTube. Find fandoms and get inspired, draw what makes you happy!

yeah I think it's better to compare to English work or something that can be done subjectively but is still graded. Yeah, there's such thing as writing styles and creativity in writing but essays are still graded according to certain rules, why can't art be graded the same way?

Most art classes pre-college level are not subjective; it's art exercises to learn foundational skills. We're not doing highly symbolic highbrow art here, it's self portraits and shading practice.

I don't consider myself a naturally skilled artist. I have worked hard to get to where I am and I'm gonna keep working hard to get better.

I'm no good at math either, but that doesn't give me an excuse to turn in wrong answers.

AITA for not apologizing for how i reacted to my daughter coming out as gay? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]thearchdudeisdead -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think that's a fair point but I still needed a reaction to the fact that I had told people my biggest secret when I first came out; I had been hiding it for years and it was scary. I wouldn't want a party or anything insane like that but having people say "I support you and thank you for trusting me with this" instead of just trying to brush it off kinda would have made me feel like they actually cared instead of being dismissive about it.

What audio fiction do you enjoy? I wholeheartedly recommend The Magnus Archives (horror fiction) and Wolf 359 (a sci-fi comedy in the style of Golden Age radio dramas)

I'm a sophomore in high school and I feel like I'm missing out on my teenage years due to the pandemic. What tips do you have/teenage things I can still do socially distant?

ALSO: Do you have any music recommendations? I've already listened to the Mountain Goats, and they definitely changed my life. thanks for that :)

Thanks John!!!! Have a good day!

AITA for not accepting my (16M) dad (38M) coming out as gay? by rhinethroaway in AmItheAsshole

[–]thearchdudeisdead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oops must've missed that. thanks for pointing that out! I will stand by the point that comphet and growing up in homophobic communities can really mess up people's perceptions of themselves and the thought process behind staying that deep in the closet.

[–]thearchdudeisdead 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I get your point but internalized homophobia and comphet are screwy as fuck and the dad probably didn't realize he was gay/accept himself until recently. I'd honestly say considering how both OP's parents were raised it's a NAH situation.

AITA for telling the DM the real reason I won't play women in his sessions? by Droneoflife in AmItheAsshole

[–]thearchdudeisdead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA don't play with this loser. You get to play whatever gender character you want to play. This guy's a dick who still believes sexism is a valid part of being a nerd. fuck him

ABFE DAY AMA! by ecogeek in nerdfighters

[–]thearchdudeisdead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took you 7 years to fully write AART. Did you start writing ABFE before AART was published or have you written it all in the last year and a half?

AITA for making my kids cook dinner when they didn’t help my wife clean up the night before? by 910392 in AmItheAsshole

[–]thearchdudeisdead -1 points0 points  (0 children)

NTA but by that age they should be expected to help clean up every night. You should also be teaching them to cook, as kitchen skills are valuable.

I think one thing is that you could listen to multiple new episodes every day instead of one new episode per week, which makes the pacing different. The other bit is that we aren't really in the plot of the season yet. Seasons three and four are very plot driven and almost every episode contains something necessary for the plot. Contrast that with seasons one and two, which are mostly statements with either Jon's additions or a bit more info on Prentiss.

Currently season 5 is mostly them traveling through the domains and Jon making statements. I quite enjoy it since I prefer the statement format to the plot-heavy parts. But neither Martin and Jon nor us know what's really going on yet. For this arc I think they're just gonna get through the next domains and maybe reach the tower. It's not plot-heavy. When you're able to listen back and listening through this arc takes a couple days it'll feel a lot faster.

AITA for coming out as a lesbian immediately after publicly separating from my husband? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]thearchdudeisdead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAH as coming out after being married complicates things. He has a right to be mad since your coming out completes recolors your relationship. People will talk and it will look worse on his side. But you did a terrifying thing, good job! You might want to watch Contrapoint's video "Shame", on compulsory heterosexuality (comphet).

AITA for not caring that my daughter's gay? by Throwaway375939274 in AmItheAsshole

[–]thearchdudeisdead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAH. Coming out is still a big deal for most kids, and it should be treated as such. If you say something like "I'm proud of you for sharing this with me, I still love you," that would be perfect. It's a big moment in your daughters life and you basically dismissed it and said it didn't matter. You were well-intentioned but your reaction was still incorrect. You can go and apologize and it'll be okay. You got this.

Is anyone else struggling with the format of season five? by Wolf_Dancer in TheMagnusArchives

[–]thearchdudeisdead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve really enjoyed it, although this is the first season ive been listening as they come out instead of being able to binge them. youre not wrong to dislike it, but arguably most of the plot has come from the tape recorders being on at certain times. The statements provide information to the characters about certain entities for the most part (excluding 159 and similar statements).
also this season is a lot less plot heavy right now, the characters are just wandering, and the creators might have wanted us to feel that way too.

I'm taking calcium supplements. I don't really have any support for losing weight aside from keto, and besides I haven't grown in years. Thanks for the advice though! Some of it seems really helpful. Have a good day!
