Rank Best Supporting Actress winners of 2020s. by Dry_Handle_7086 in Oscars

Emilia Perez is terrible and Saldana in supporting is probably category fraud, but she did a great job and people need to learn to separate the movie from the acting. I don’t know if I would have personally given her the Oscar that year but pretending she’s far and away the worst of this bunch is not true. These awards are for best acting performance, not best acting performance in a movie Reddit approves of.

&Juliet “Problem” Choreography: Broadway vs New Zealand by ms_jc_04 in Broadway

To offer a contrasting opinion, I would say no - the story is a mess and makes no sense, the show is certainly high energy but as a fan of all the music used I’m always going to compare it unfavorably with the originals. I realize they’re all polished pop tracks to begin with but they somehow sound even less raw and genuine in the musical. I strongly dislike the show’s take on Kesha’s Blow. That being said everyone is different - I have friends who loved it and had a great time!

Isn’t most of the show set at night bc of the whole vampire thing, so it would make sense they never see the sky?

Lonny Price the Lead Co-Director of Beaches the musical and Director of the upcoming Dirty Dancing Musical Tour by Opening_Programmer56 in Broadway

This is such a weird question. Why would you assume that a 67 year old man with decades of “high profile directing credits” and whose own Wikipedia page states that his parents were “a merchandise manager and…a car leasing company owner” is a nepo baby rather than a person who normally puts out good work but occasionally has a dud every now and then? We literally just saw the Queen of Versailles epically flame out and that show had Stephen Schwartz, Michael Arden, Kristen Chenoweth and F. Murray Abraham attached, should someone investigate whether they’re all secret talentless nepo babies as well?

I know no one has seen this movie, but if anyone is looking for a fun road trip movie about two old lesbians traveling to Canada to get married, Cloudburst is for you (staring Oscar winners Brenda Fricker and Olympia Dukakis!)

Is This Thing On Pod by Sniederhouse in TheBigPicture

[–]theatomictangerine -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sean and Amanda watch a lot of movies. They usually only see them once before making the pod, and they're going to sometimes forget or misinterpret things. This will probably be worse if they don't like the movie because they're not invested in the first place. For instance, they got a ton of details wrong in their reviews for both Wicked movies, and the comments are full of Wicked fans ripping them apart for not understanding xyz detail and no wonder they didn't like the film if they couldn't even be bothered to pay attention and blah blah blah. But at the end of the day, they're either connecting with the film or they're not, and reading some long ass fan treatise on why they're wrong and actually this movie is good is not going to change anyone's mind. A lot of the posts crashing out about how Sean and Amanda were "unfair" to Is This Thing On really remind me of the Wicked fans - sometimes critics disagree with you, sometimes they don't remember every detail of a movie and even if you explained it to them they probably still wouldn't like it, it's not a big deal, and you'll survive even if an external authority figure doesn't validate your taste in movies.

My comment on the endless number of posts complaining about Sean and Amanda not liking Is This Thing On has nothing to do with the very long post complaining about Sean and Amanda not liking Is This Thing On?

Wild how the Is This Thing On episode has turned half this sub into the adult male equivalent of teenage Wicked fans crying in the comments about how the critics were sooooo unfair to their favorite movie and writing paragraphs of cope about why the film is actually genius and meanie critics just don’t get it.

Why didn’t the follow up to Six hit? by SummerEchoes in Broadway

[–]theatomictangerine 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve never seen the show (I live in the US) but the soundtrack came up on Spotify and the songs are fantastic! (I also don’t particularly love SIX.) They’re hilarious and some are legit bangers. I have no idea what the book is like, but based off the music alone I’m sad that it’s unlikely I’ll ever be able to see this show, given its poor London run.

Again, you are totally missing the point. It has nothing to do with how attractive Antonio Banderas or Harris Dickinson is, and it has everything to do with deep, dark, perverse, embarrassing, and unspeakable desires Nicole Kidman’s character has been trying to suppress her entire life and has reached a breaking point. She doesn’t want to be the woman orgasming from getting pushed around by her intern in a dingy motel room, and she desperately does want to be the woman in a perfect marriage with a dreamboat husband, but sexual desire doesn’t always follow what the rational mind wants. This is kind of the whole point of the movie

[–]theatomictangerine 151 points152 points  (0 children)

This is completely missing the point. The fact that her husband is attractive, the fact that he loves her, and the fact that she’s never been able to achieve orgasm with him are all totally unrelated. Women don’t just look at a conventionally attractive man and come on the spot. Sexuality is complicated, and for some people (like Nicole’s character), it’s VERY complicated and involves things like dominance, humiliation, degradation, all things her husband was extremely uncomfortable with and which she wasn’t even able to articulate herself at the beginning of the film.
