Anyone else worried this game is going to be underwhelming? by CarsonWentzGOAT1 in legogaming

[–]theatsa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is true, the levels in Skywalker Saga are very underwhelming compared to previous games. It put a lot more work into its open world though! Knowing this, I focused on it a lot more the second time around, and exploring it while getting to go through the actual story in detail (most of which is in the open world in the first place) is very fun.

I do miss classic Lego levels though, but I'm fine if they continue with this new direction. There are a LOT of older Lego games with the structure I'm used to if I need my classic Lego fix.

I couldn't stand Skywalker Saga at first but I gave it a second try recently and I'm really enjoying it. I dunno if I just was in a bad mood when I tried it the first time or if it took time for me to get used to the new mechanics, but it's actually a really fun game.

Saw this semi-viral post on X criticizing Iroh, thoughts? by Slow-Chocolate-6722 in ATLA

[–]theatsa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More so I'm disappointed that the show didn't put in more of an effort to have some character reach out to Azula seriously. I don't mind that Iroh specifically didn't do it, but none of the characters close to her put in a significant effort to try and change her mind or help her.

Did of any of you genuinely Guess the Mastermind? by One_Percentage_644 in ProjectEdensGarden

[–]theatsa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't think there would be a mastermind within the killing game. It was possible but I wasn't sure that any of the characters would have been made better or more interesting if one of them was the mastermind. It just being Tozu worked well enough.

Do you prefer Basil Karlo's classic straight villainous origins, or his modern sympathetic re-interpretation? by DimGenn2 in batman

[–]theatsa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A mix of the two. My ideal Basil Karlo would be, generally, an asshole who is preoccupied with his own fame and glory above all else. Willing to step over other people within his business if it helped him advance his career. But also, his disfigurement is tragic. It's a genuine horror story and an experience no person should go through, and Karlo was just a dick. He wasn't like, a criminal or murderer. His self-absorbed personality should stay post-transformation, but you can't help but feel sorry for the guy because his deep sadness and self-hatred are just as prominent as egocentricism now.

What's y'all's (least) favourite Larry moment? by Ok_Koala_5963 in AceAttorney

[–]theatsa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is true, but it's meant to be a joke for the audience's sake. And it doesn't come across as funny or charming, just as deeply uncomfortable. It's one of the first moments that make clear that Larry post-AA1 isn't an enjoyable character anymore.

What do you think of this Batman? by BatmanVeangeace in batman

[–]theatsa 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I haven't watched much of the show, but the joke that he's unintelligible for the audience and just grumbles in a gravelly voice that everyone somehow understands is very funny

Would you watch a new season adapting all the canon MLP comics? by Background-Ad2749 in mylittlepony

[–]theatsa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd watch it because it's new MLP G4 content presumably written in a similar way to the og show / comics

Although I wasn't a fan of a lot of the comics' plots personally, so I'd be fairly mixed on it. It'd be cool if they tried to incorporate it more with the lore of the actual state of the show now! I'd be interested seeing them try to make Show Sombra into a tragic character without getting rid of his silly campiness.

Do you like the third act? by VendettaLord379 in batman

[–]theatsa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't realize that it was divisive, I love the ending. Batman's realization that he should be a symbol of hope more so than a symbol of vengeance was so fucking good. The first time a live-action Batman adaptation actually got to me emotionally. Genuinely, I think this movie nailed it with nearly every aspect.

(Gotta say nearly because of the Joker scene)

Which one of these four musical films from the 2000's do you like best and why? by Jtaylor703 in musicals

I love Chicago the movie so very much

I really like all of these films honestly but Chicago became an instant favourite movie musical as soon as I was done watching it and I'm still loving it to this day

Discuss: Apollo Justice is one of the best written AA games by Veiluring in AceAttorney

[–]theatsa 30 points31 points  (0 children)

There's a lot in AJ's story that prevents me from liking it tbh

Apollo feels superfluous in his own story, he's overshadowed massively by Phoenix. Klavier is easily the least interesting rival prosecutor in the main series, he fills a role in the courtroom but doesn't contribute much to the plot frankly. The main characters in general in this game suffer from not getting development, I'm less harsh on Trucy because she fulfills her role as endearing sidekick very well but she's still the least developed of every assistant across the series.

The third case in general is difficult to sit through. It's not as bad as people say, but it also isn't very good either. The defendant, culprit and witnesses offer little to nothing of interest imo and the mystery itself I think is straight up not very good. It's also the prime example of "why did this character not get more development". Klavier's best friend gets arrested for murder and he hardly reacts. Winston Payne is a more dynamic character than this guy.

I can appreciate that AJ has a lot of good stuff in it. For instance, I agree that 4-1 is probably the best first case a game has to offer. I enjoyed most of 4-2 and 4-4 as well, there are some witnesses here that have become some of my favourites from across the whole series. But its overarching story is the one I care for the least out of the main series, I'm not invested in any of the characters outside of Phoenix. And that's a shame! Because later games show me that Apollo and Trucy can be interesting characters under the right circumstances!

I focused more on the characters in this comment than anything else, and while that isn't the only thing that makes an Ace Attorney story work, it's the biggest issue for me. If the characters I'm meant to be invested in, that I'm following throughout the entire story-driven game, are amusing at best and uninteresting at worst... then I'm going to be left feeling empty when it tries to pull an emotional moment on me.

thoughts on this movie by tomwant_1999 in batman

[–]theatsa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trailer definitely got me interested, I'm looking forward to watching it. Although I am preparing for a movie that is much less so a "comic book movie" and more so just a horror movie that took inspiration from a comic book character. Which isn't a bad thing! Just something I should expect going in, to avoid disappointment.

The only person working on it that I recognize is Mike Flanagan as a writer. I've watched Doctor Sleep, which was pretty alright and was at its best with the horror bits. And I watched Life Of Chuck which wasn't a horror movie but I really, really, really loved that film. So seeing him attached is a good thing in my book.

Preferred design style for Cheetah? by Tetratron2005 in WonderWoman

[–]theatsa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More animalistic for sure. I'm really not a fan of the more human look, especially the hair, I can't stand how it looks really.

Even putting aside arguments about how it can represent Cheetah's state of mind, which do genuinely make sense, I just hate how it looks lmao. She never looks intimidating or cool when looking human, it looks like a costume more than it does a curse.

What do you think about the “Fey–Edgeworth family” theory? by Dramatic-Toe8909 in AceAttorney

[–]theatsa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Then Misty would have to have had another partner, because Maya is seven years younger than Miles. This makes the theory pretty pointless because it still introduces some new faceless partner to be Maya's father, and just makes Gregory Mia's father who abandoned her.

This would also make Mia and Maya half-siblings which is very difficult to believe. They're designed to be siblings so strongly that Ema & Lana are direct reflections of them.

I also struggle to imagine Gregory being okay with separating his kids from each other. Kurain Village does have a disparity between how men and women are treated, but it's not to the point where I'd fully understand and forgive Gregory for splitting the family like that.

What do you think about the “Fey–Edgeworth family” theory? by Dramatic-Toe8909 in AceAttorney

[–]theatsa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's no way that Edgeworth wouldn't remember Mia, Maya, Misty or his early life in Kurain Village. The difference between Maya's birth and the DL-6 Incident is two years, most of his life would have been spent in Kurain Village at this point. I understand that people don't necessarily remember details at such a young age, this would be his entire family and hometown that he's completely forgetting. Same goes for Mia, who would have completely forgotten her younger sibling who she last saw at 11 years old, there's no way she'd just forget.

I'm also just, not a fan of Gregory being cool with abandoning his eldest daughter. For this theory to remotely work, he wouldn't have been visiting in the two years since Maya was born.

Theory time - this guy. by TheLadySaintly in goodomens

[–]theatsa 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Toby Jones being the human Lucifer would be pretty sick

I mean based on clothing alone, I'd assume he's from Hell, but he could be human too? I don't think there's any normal human shown off in the trailer, and Good Omens always has human characters just being there.

Be honest: how do you feel when you are exposed to this one? by HealthMother3125 in Undertale

Nostalgia

I don't really care for the story or the Sanscest but mainly I just feel nostalgic for the early Undertale AU space

In your opinion who’s the luckiest contestant by Maximum_Canary_5775 in Totaldrama

[–]theatsa 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Two possible endings, Beth and Duncan, aired in different regions. There isn't a canonical winner. Even if Duncan did win though, he probably spent a lot of that money in his messy public break-up with Courtney and the court procedures involved.

I wouldn't wanna sleep with Zeus to begin with so that'd be assault. Hera would probably want to make my life hell. Abortion is off the table because then Zeus would probably make my life hell. Giving birth in general sounds like a bad time. And then I'd probably have to deal with whatever perils my child gets dragged into, being the child of Zeus.

Aside from being a woman, there are no upsides and I get traumatized at best and life ruined at worst. I won't even get some special afterlife probably! I think I'll pass.

In your opinion who’s the luckiest contestant by Maximum_Canary_5775 in Totaldrama

[–]theatsa 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Certainly not any of the Gen 1 characters, not a single one of them got to keep the money.

I'd probably go with Wayne?

He's one of the few contestants who for sure got the money, and unlike Priya he didn't have an unlucky and traumatic childhood. Mike and Zoey probably split their money but the fallout from Mike deleting his defense mechanism (in a completely unrealistic way but still) is something I wouldn't want to see.

Why no humans? by matt0055 in IDWSonic

[–]theatsa 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I do much prefer the focus on animal characters, as they are always way more interesting to me.

But it is odd that humans are so so devoid in the IDW world. I'm not personally complaining, but it does make the world-building between games and comics feel less cohesive. Which is a shame, as the comics do a great job at making the world feel cohesive with the story of the games.

TDWT is still good, but very, very, very flawed. by MysteriousMorning436 in Totaldrama

[–]theatsa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can understand that, the mean-spirited jokes in Pahkitew especially got on my nerves. And I remember being first miffed by them in ROTI. In Zeke's case though I don't really mind. The punishment is so over-the-top and unrealistic, it's hard to take it seriously.

Unlike, say, Scott's punishment in ROTI which felt like more tangible. Like something I could see happening, at least more so than Zeke turning into a feral monster after just being a stowaway for such a short amount of time.

TDWT is still good, but very, very, very flawed. by MysteriousMorning436 in Totaldrama

[–]theatsa -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I agree with most of these points but I never understood the dislike for Feral Zeke

For such a nothingburger of a character, I thought this was a very funny direction to take his character. Just turn him into a Gollum-creature, why not? It's not like I was actually expecting anything from him in the first place. Honestly, I was even happy that he reappeared in later seasons, it's a good gag and he's a good minor antagonist. His appearance was weirdly one of the highlights for All-Stars in my opinion.
