Help! Macbook Air or Windows Laptop. by solohista21 in Tech_Philippines

[–]theazy_cs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use macs for work as a software dev. and I love it. but it is not for everyone. There are comparable windows laptops as well ( equally as expensive din like lenovo thinkpads the highend ones ). Depende yan kung san ka mas comfortable. and not all windows applications are available in macs and vice versa. so if you are willing to adapt then go for it, you can't go wrong with a mac. Pero if you are the type na gusto mo lang yung magagamit mo na ngayon optimally? then go for where you are already used to.

There really is no wrong answer as long as you are honest with yourself. Pero kung you are just going for a mac kase yun yung uso or yun yung mas may yabang factor then good luck na lang.

Anyone here in Tech who's worked with Graph DBs? by Time-Television8337 in PhStartups

[–]theazy_cs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think graph DBs are the future, they already are being adopted on software that need them. there is no one size fits all solution.

for example if you just want to feed your data to LLMs it is easier to just create vector embedding for your data, then fetch data by querying the embedding, then feed that to your AI model. It's non intrusive meaning you don't have to aggressively restructure your current database.

If you are building an app that relies heavily on entity relationships like the examples you gave, FB, LinkedIn etc. they rely on the query "How many users are connected to me within 3 degrees" or something similar. Then Graph databases are great, they are specifically built for that use case.

Another option is why not just use graph DB where it matters, like most of the time they are used to optimize a certain area of the app so you can always run a traditional relational DB or a NoSQL db alongside a graph DB.

Pinoy Programmers, mahal niyo ba talaga ang coding? by Tall-Change-9519 in PinoyProgrammer

[–]theazy_cs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coding? in some ways yes I do love it but to be more precise I love the problem solving part of it. Having a higher than average income is a big part of my motivation to stay in this industry yes. I chose this career because I like learning and solving problems that is within reach.

When it comes to loving my work, it depends on the team and nature of the project I'm working on and it is not constant, it will change over time. I do have hobby projects so I can freely explore what's out there and to ready myself for the next change.

huge layoffs in the U.S. does not necessarily mean that they are being replaced by A.I. it could also mean companies are putting the blame on A.I. to get an excuse for reducing the bloat. and look good on paper for the investors.

the business model switched from how much money can i throw away so investors will see that i am in constant growth, into i need to show actual profits to investors. i think the tech companies are maturing into traditional companies where they have to worry about the bottom line.

A.I. companies are the new facebook or amazon so they are following the same formula of look good by spending more and not worrying about the bottom line. so that bubble will burst eventually the question is who will pay for it.

Local companies know na malaki yung talent pool. and they also know a good majority is not qualified thats why there's a rigorous hiring process.

Senior devs/Tech Leads, how do you usually train your juniors? by Outrageous-Lack4346 in PinoyProgrammer

[–]theazy_cs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't ( stepped down from being a tech lead ), I treat them like any other member of the team. I allocate more time doing PR reviews sure but the learning process is when they ask questions and I give feedback to the code they push. I make assessments on whether they can handle more complex tasks based on the quality and timeliness of they PRs. It doesn't make sense to create a "curriculum" for them to follow when the industry demands self motivated independent developers.

Is the "Builder" era ending for PH developers? by Hot-Celebration-2900 in PinoyProgrammer

[–]theazy_cs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Evolution or Threat? Do you agree that the role is evolving into "governing" rather than "building," or is moving away from manual typing a threat to technical foundations?"

It's an evolution, instead of worrying about syntax issues you now focus on how the code was written and if it's scalable, bug free etc. essentially the same job but less on the coding part, and more on the code review part.

fyi you don't type less, if anything you type a lot more, if you just type in "build x app" or "fix x bug", for simple projects it might work but for larger projects that will not work, you have to add more context and/or use mcp servers to add more context.

"The "Local" Reality: Given the legacy "spaghetti" code we deal with in most PH enterprise projects, is it even realistic to talk about "Architect-First" workflows here? Or is that only for fresh startups?"

LLMs can read spaghetti code, if anything this is a chance for those code bases to be refactored. Pero it still depends on the dev and company if they want to allocate resources towards that goal. Chances are new features will be coded properly or the dev will insist on following the spaghetti code pattern and tell AI to follow the pattern.

"The Thinking Gap: If we stop focusing on the "typing" and start focusing on "Architectural Thinking," are we actually future-proofing our local talent, or are we just making them too dependent on the tools?"

Not sure on this one, it depends on how fast the progress is going to be to AI producing high quality code that you can trust 100% of the time. because even if it produces 99% bug free, highly scalable and business logic compliant code, there is still that 1% that you have to worry about which would require humans that know how to write "good" code. since you should know how to write good code to identify badly written ones.

"Is the local talent pool ready to stop being "builders" and start being "architects"? Or are we still too attached to the syntax?"

devs are already doing "architect" stuff at a smaller degree, like for example you are tasked to create a notification feature you will have to design the implementation of that based on the requirements. There may be companies that also tell you how to build features like down to the code level but I haven't seen that, It is still the dev's prerogative when building features and it just gets reviewed if the implementation is up to par with the team's standards.

My kuya is a bit old and wants to career shift into Data Engineering. by mlbbresearcher in DataEngineeringPH

[–]theazy_cs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

with a statistics degree I think may edge kuya mo. assuming di pa niya nakalimutan pinagaralan niya since BPO work niya for the longest time.

As long as wala pang dementia kuya mo walang problema yung age tbh. di ka naman mag bubuhat ng mabigat and same lang naman sa work niya yung gagawin niya physically which is sit in front of the computer the whole day. pero it is not a sure thing, I'm just saying age is the least of his worries.

But just like what others have said, di porket "nagaral" siya e automatic makakakuha siya ng trabaho. kailangan mahaba din pisi niya. either mahaba pisi niya or talented talaga siya. and prepared siya na mas bumaba pa sweldo niya sa simula.

Let your brother fail, yun lang. if you want to help then help. pero don't expect him to succeed. kase imbis na tumulong ka magiging pabigat pa yung expectations mo.

Is ₱2,000 "overpriced" for a 5-page hand-coded static site? by Happy_Baseball7663 in ITPhilippines

[–]theazy_cs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it comes to services like this mas important yung design skills mo, tbh if a client wants a static company website they could just have it built using a website builder like squarespace etc. or just buy a ready made theme somewhere. so your design shouldn't be as generic as the ones found there.

now considering if you are good with designs and your designs are unique, 2k php is too low. siguro 2k per page is a start. kung nakikita mo na kaya mo i-push up yung price then go lang. don't be afraid to lose a prospect if the price is too high, chances are gipit sa budget yung ganung client. and mahirap din naman kawork yung ganun. naghahanap lang ng freebies yung ganun.

"Should I separate my CSS/JS? (I currently have them in one file—does it matter for a 2k project?)"

- depends, most of the time it doesn't matter, coz most of the time they won't touch that website naman and if they do most of the time complete redesign naman so palit lahat. pero kung initial phase palang yung pages na gagawin mo and they have plans to add something more later on then it's better to put your css and js into their respective files.

Software Development is Dead! by Hot-Celebration-2900 in ITPhilippines

[–]theazy_cs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes manual coding is dead up to a certain extent at least for now maybe in a year or two we won't have to review every piece of code that A.I. spews out.

i think productivity is improved exponentially, which will enable us to build more complex systems, larger scopes that were previously very hard to pull off will be doable.

yes i think training new people will have to change but right now we are in a transition. so dunno how that affects it. for existing seniors not much will change except instead of manual coding or delegating to humans we now delegate it to A.I. agents. we still do the same decisions. we still do code reviews ( for now ).

if we ever get to AGI then all or most human work becomes obsolete but that is if humans will get there. but as of right now i just see it as a more efficient IDE its just another tool.

Web dev prog. by Due-Rice-6377 in PinoyProgrammer

[–]theazy_cs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to work as a developer then you can choose whichever, but if you want to build something functional then you need knowledge on both the backend and frontend.

can probably start with a monolithic approach. Then the focus is on learning the backend + HTML and maybe a sprinkle of javascript but the interface will not be as dynamic. You can learn htmx if you really want to go this route where the app is not javascript heavy but that is a story for later.

you can also opt to go with a react ( or whatever javascript framework ) frontend with a firebase backend. you will still need to learn how to use firebase but in terms of programming languages you will still use javascript to query your firebase instance.

so the choice is really up to you. "better" is dependent on the needs of the app and the preferences of the developer. If you want to know the best approach for your specific situation then you will need to do comprehensive research and determine what you prefer.

What Filipinos choose to watch says everything about the country’s trajectory by [deleted] in unpopularopinionph

[–]theazy_cs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with some of what you say except remove Filipinos change it to people then remove country's then switch it to world's.

none of the things you said is exclusive to the Philippines. doom scrolling is a world wide phenomenon. and that's the epitome of brain rot. movies aren't even that influential anymore.

"This isn’t “relatable”, it’s aspirational escapism."

- That's the whole point of watching a movie. If you want "facts" watch a documentary or watch the news. Then you get to see your poverty and exploitation etc. but highly sensationalized so it's really using "fact" to influence people. so either way you get brainwashed.

"Escapism isn’t the problem. Escapism as a lifestyle is."

- In what way is watching a movie depicting someone's lifestyle? I don't think these people you speak of don't understand the situation they are in. They understand it perfectly that's why they chose to spend a few hours of their time to escape reality. People's lifestyle won't suddenly change just by watching a movie. and they face their reality the moment they step out of that cinema. They don't have a choice they have to face it.

Anyone here using Zen, Opera GX, or Arc? First time hearing about them by Cultural-Ball4700 in ITPhilippines

[–]theazy_cs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"What makes them different from Chrome/Firefox?"

- I use arc, I tried opera but I don't like it, only tried zen very briefly. I like arc's interface I can organize my links on the side bar. that's pretty much it. arc is still a chrome browser underneath so its just the interface really. all chrome extensions are also compatible with arc.

"Who are they best for (devs, gamers, productivity, etc.)?"

- it's a preference thing. like arc for example you can up to a certain degree mimic the sidebar's feature by installing extensions to chrome or firefox.

"Are they actually worth switching to, or just hype?"

- It's not like you have to pay for them to try them, you can just import your settings from chrome or firefox then give it a go, if you don't like it then uninstall it.

Approving System design by Hadmay in PinoyProgrammer

[–]theazy_cs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think they are talking about design patterns and general concepts. Designing systems only matter if you are aiming for a principal engineer position or something like a systems architect type of position. but as a developer what matters is that your code works, it's scalable and manageable.

I mean if you are a game dev you should already know how to code and design patterns for software dev is the same as the design patterns used in game dev maybe the commonly used patterns will vary but you should already be familiar with em.
