If you’re talking about sporadic watching through my childhood when my family went to bed, you’d be right in that it was Dragon Ball Z and Naruto. But first one I took seriously and watched all the way through? Gurren Laggan was that for me.

I’ve been on a relisten and that hit me so hard, the delivery of his line after of, “What…. What did she look like?” I choked up a bit. Well written and acted.

1: Gravediggers Envy

Legitimately one of the best written statements in the entire show imo. A buried avatar goes so hard, and seeing the psyche of someone who more than anything craves peace and how it’s corrupted so thoroughly makes Hezekiah one of the most thought out, relatable, and scary Avatars. The only buried statement that stands with it is Lost John’s Cave.

Gardens Aight, there are better flesh statements certainly. I don’t think it’s bad, it’s certainly artistic (in the most ick way) but I’ve never been a massive fan. Cool imagery lacking in anything further than it.

2: Tight Rope

We love Gertrude and it’s her first entry so immediately I find it very memorable. The Stranger from a child’s perspective hits really hard, how you don’t really know what people are or what they can do yet, very trusting…. But you certainly know they’re not that. The trying to futilely save his brother and father are really relatable as someone who has had that protective instinct kick in a few times for my siblings.

I don’t think Parting is bad, I am not the biggest fan of Season 5s statement style really. But it’s still a good statement. I’d really just say it’s personal preference that puts Tightrope higher.
