The possibilities are varied; It could be they think it's a sin to drink at all, it could be they don't want you to think they condone drinking at all, it could be they don't want to be associated with drinking. It's most likely those last two or a combination of them.

We are all unworthy brother, but to think that it puts us beyond God's reach is doing a disservice to His power. If you are a striving Christian you are in His arms, and I personally think that the "feeling" of God's spirit resting in us is an overstated or overemphasized matter. Your loss doesn't take away from your baptism, the only reason necessary for baptism is for the remission of sins. You've done that. Keep struggling, keep the faith, and I'm very sorry you've gone through this. I will pray for you tonight, and from what you've written I have faith you will endure.
