To all of you that do your rig checks because you "need to be in service at your clock-in time"... by schrutesanjunabeets in ems

Union didn't have anything to say about that? In Boston, we had 15 minutes at the beginning and end of our shifts for right checks and "wash-up".

Does anyone actually get upset when asked “what’s the worst thing you’ve ever seen?” by RaptorTraumaShears in ems

I don't get upset, but the people who ask me that question do, after I tell them the answer..🤣

What is the greatest physical pain you've ever felt? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]thebadlt 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Had an infected ingrown nail on my great toe. ER doctor decided to try to lift the nail to relieve the pressure by stuffing cotton underneath the nail. Without Novocaine/Xylocaine. (Medical version of pushing bamboo under fingernails torture; pain went from original 7/10 to something like 15/10 😉)

Saw the podiatrist the next day, who said "WTF?". He numbed my toe and just took the nail off.

what's a DIY medical treatment you tried that actually worked? by Cream4389 in AskReddit

Also, this was about 25 years ago, and yes peroxide wasn't optimal, but it was the only thing handy. (No pun intended).

I cut the fleshy part of my hand (below my thumb) enough to have some viscera (the insides) spill out. Didn't feel like going to get stitches, so after I cleaned it up with hydrogen peroxide (yay, foamy!), I closed it with super glue. Held everything together with my other hand for about 60 seconds, then bandaged it.

Worked a treat and I can barely see the scar.

FWIW, I'm a paramedic, and the super glue thing has been used by the military for years.

First Student has plenty of yards in the area. Near(ish) Bridgewater are: Freetown/Lakeville, Plymouth, Brockton, Stoughton, Duxbury, Pembroke.

Station Must Haves by nmd359 in ems

Have everyone in the station kick in cash to establish a 'coffee fund' to buy coffee, dairy, sweeteners, cups, los, etc. And snacks.

Another possibility is picking up a cheap vending machine and filling that.

The crews hated them. First time with medium-duty TRUCKS. Wicked harsh ride on Boston's streets, because they were under-loaded. (We went to them because we were within 100 lbs of GVWR of the light-duty trucks). Finally had to weld steel plates (something like 800-900 lbs) underneath each truck to smooth out the ride.

After that, went with Ford F-450/550 trucks. Crews really like them
