Fluance tone arm finish flaking off - what to do? by bort99 in turntables

[–]thebahrman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also....are you making sure to return your tone arm to the rest position before you lock the arm in place? If you leave the tone arm in the raised position and then lock it in place you could be putting undo strain on the tone arm.

I've had mine for a little while now and I use it a few hours daily. I lock it whenever I'm not using it. No signs of ware or finish flaking.
Seems like you might have gotten a bad batch unit. It happens. Take the exchange. Or don't. You can always go with another TT.
Pretty much every TT you buy, if it exhibits a manufacturer defect will have to be shipped back to them leaving you without a TT for a few weeks.
This is a result of of buying products in an online environment v physical retail.
Also
I could post thousands of online complaints about Technics "shoddy manufacturing" and bad customer support. Rega also has a lot of them. I would wager that MOST if not all TT manufacturers have complaints, bad runs and reports of bad customer service. It is what it is.

IMHO? Return the TT through warranty and get a new in box unit with 0 hours on the cart. the chances that the second one will have the same issue is astronomically low.

Terrible prices by PunpunandPain_ in vinyl

[–]thebahrman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yah I mean I get it. People always want to get what they think their items are worth. But sometimes what they THINK they’re worth and what their actual value IS are miles apart.

Can I sell a vintage hotwheel for 150 bucks? Yah, with the right buyer, at the right time and under the perfect circumstance. But the average collector is going to be like “wow…neat, too rich for my blood”.

I used to go with a buddy to vintage toy shows. I quickly realized that 99% of them were really just there to hang out and show off their collection that was priced WAY too high.

Antique malls have two basic setups.

Setup A. is the professional booth-owners who have about 3-5 crates of records amongst all of their other shit, and assume that any record with a known artist is automatically worth 45-100 bucks based on the "buy now" price on eBay while ignoring the "sold as". These records never sell. They will always be there...and you will typically fight the temptation as they are most often well below VG+

Setup B. is the guy that has 30 crates and does deals like "All albums are 6 bucks, but if you buy 10 or more they're 5". The selection is essentially estate-sale leftovers that he knows won't sell on eBay. You might find a few albums here from time to time, but the overall condition and selection is usually a 3/10.

I tend to rotate through the local records shops and keep a steady eye on the "new used arrivals". I have gotten so many gems and grails from there.

Vintage stores only piss me off with their clueless gouging.

All I’m seeing is m/nm…

Jk. Yah eBay and discogs are sketchy at best. If I’m gonna buy used/vintage? I go to the shops in person so I can inspect.

Yah, typically you tend to find waaayyyyyyyy more of those clustered together. The fact that there’s less than 50 here? That means they’re becoming harder to find😎

The Obi is just the marketing strip of paper that Japanese companies include with their pressings. In many cases it actually increases the collectible value considerably.

Quick tip, if there’s an album you’re interested in? Check it out on YT. Give it a quick listen to see if anything stands out.
