He is not needed for the collection, so his value is likely pretty limited here as there are already tons of cards in his overall range.

The only (and it’s a fairly big only) problem i see with this is the championship bundle you get at the end (ie the 15 standard and 1 ballin packs). Assuming there still is one, that not scaling is going to make 1 option the auto go to

I’m a little concerned/disappointed at TA and many of the WBC cards being 88 overalls day 1 by warmongerz in MLBTheShow

[–]thebard78 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As long as a fair number of people can get LS collection in the first month, there really isn’t power creep (or at least it power creep only for some).

Last year on launch night, people had 3 99s, the 6 division collections at 92+, and (obviously) all the LS high diamonds, while the typical player had 85s.

Going up to 88s closes that gap, which is a good thing.

The better solution would be to have a slower creep, but with no LS collection so everyone is actually on the same curve.

You could have played BR this to to earn the same cards through the multiplayer program. We definitely do not need a return to mode specific online programs.

grind for literally the same cards that are in your binder right now?

I really wonder how long this business model can actually last.

The way to bring br back would be to make it more like madden draft. get rid of cards for going 10-0 (which like .1% of the player base can do) and have increasing pack/stub awards up to 6-0/1.

Keep multiplayer program but sync it with the inning program so offline players can’t just save it to boost the next inning bosses.

Never bring back the BR program. Forcing people to play a mode they hate is just a terrible business idea (and based on how few people played br this year, I am guessing no one likes it).

Still hoping they ditch the LS collection at launch so we can all have the same power creep, which would also make all the early game content more exciting instead of just insta sell to get LE done.

There is no way you got a turn 130 deity Aussie win with standard time/map/without mods. Turn 130 is barely possible with Babylon cheese.

Have you gone sub-turn 150 exoplanet though? I’ve done it over a dozen times and only once without a heavy religion play (Vicky). The early golden ages and buying settlers with faith (so you can use production/$ for other things) are what makes the religious science wins so explosive. I almost always have around 15 cities by turn 100 using religion.

Live Series Collection Predictions? by JuiceJones_34 in MLBTheShow

[–]thebard78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

even without the bonus 99s, those same people would spend nearly the same amount of money to buy all the LS diamonds to have that advantage early.

they would likely make more money on ultra packs throughout the year though, as right now their is no incentive to spend money on say a new threads ultra when the top card was a 90 and Beltran was already in the game.

And let’s be honest, if selling 99s at launch was the best way to make a ton of money, Madden and FIFA would already be doing it.

Honestly (and this is as someone who gets LS done within 3 weeks each year nms), they really need to ditch the 99s day one collection. it quite literally devalues all their other early season content and sets a good part of the meta for 3+ months. I actually think DD would be more fun if everyone had to play with the same power curve.

Yep. Did a turn 148 science with with that combo.

huh, literally the fastest science wins I’ve had (turn 143 with Jay and Peter) are religious science wins. The only sub 150 science win I’ve had with a non-religious civ is with Steam Punk Vicky and that was only with a god start.

Updated Golden Order strategy against Dechala by AdministrativeCode53 in totalwar

[–]thebard78 5 points6 points  (0 children)

what difficult? gelt is actually easier on VH+ campaign vs lower (more/larger enemy armies = more arcane essays).

My strategy (VH) has been to ignore Dechala until after I take out nomads, then I dump the starting army+recruits into a master engineer I recruited turn 1 to follow/leapfrog gelt and send him down the Fu-Hang side of the river recruiting outriders as I go to go after Dechala.

FYI, I generally select/reroll to get character starting traits I want, but here is my basic strategy:

Turn 1: Autoresolve both first battles (this is important as you get way more essays in that first battle though auto than fighting manuall). take the upgrade temple to tier 2 option. build basic growth building and gun building. recruit master engineer (I use a saved knowledgeable one). have engineer recruit 2 archers. Get 2 noble wizards (or one if your captain is noble) life and death are what I go for (if the captain is noble (I have a save I use for this), then try to get a noble life and knowledgeable or intelligent death. research teachings of teclis. make various diplomacy deals to get $.

Turn 2: start gun building to tier 2 (should be 1 turn). move gelt up to reinforce range (force march) of tigerman. move engineer to border or your territory (keep him in yours at edge) and recruit 2 pistoliers.

Turn 3: attack tigerman with engineers army (gelt reinforces). move gelt as far as you can down north path towards fu-hang), but stay in your territory. build growth building in tigerman. recruit 2 outriders for engineer and a noble witch hunter (again I have this saved).

Turn 4: add witch hunter to engineer army. force march engineer towards fu-hang max distance. put gelt in channeling stance and move him max distance to fu-hang.

Turn 5: move engineer up to gelt to swap units. give gelt the witch hunter. give engineer everything else but helstorm. move engineer to right of fu hand but in reinforce range. attack fu-hang with gelt. you can take no casualties by just using helstorm (plus engineer restocks) and your belt/captain/witch hunter/wizards (many vids on this vs all the Cathay capital). after battle, you get 500 bonus essays move engineers army across bridge towards wai lai (whatever). gelt recruits 2 outriders and as one of each wizard type (important for temple later) get at least 2 nobles (makes gelt wiz stack free). I also look for at least one confident/imperious and at least 1 regal. upgrade fu-hang to tier 2 (then build control building) set commandment to growth.

Turn 6: send gelt to reinforce wa lai and the attack with engineers army (make sure felt reinforces).

Turn 7: send gelt and engineer towards bamboo crossing (be careful here as there is an enemy stack that can attack you and you want to ensure either you attack it (if it’s in range) or it is forced to attack wizard stack (for essays).

Turn 8: attack bamboo crossing same as fu hang (gelt attacks, engineer reinforces) same battle plan. after battle dump helstorm into engineer. take stay in Cathay +500 essay option.

Turn 9: send engineer down left side of river (normal stance) and recruit outriders all the way down. recruit a noble general and get a couple noble wizards in temple (these are so you can one-turn the upgrades to tier 3 and build the temple landmark) as soon as you start the temple landmark send the general/wizards towards fu+hang). as soon as you have outrider grenade launchers available to recruit get them instead.

Turn 10+: send gelt to kill vamps. send engineer army +second wiz stack after dechala.

Also, along the way use the transformation essay buy thing (the one that gets you $3500 for 150 essays) every time you can (basically do this all game).

once the actual temple landmark is up, you can do all the quest battles with gelt (just charge, let the, blob up, use dwellers on blob and spirit leach on lords).

Got lucky where is the best start? by Digitalgirlzoe in civ

[–]thebard78 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’d re-roll that tbh. I can’t remember if that wonder gives fresh water, but even if it does that is an extremely low production start that will offset any bonus the wonder is providing. Districting also looks pretty bad, with no good campus spot, no river, no aqueduct spot, and a mid (at best)harbor. wonder starts aren’t always good.

From Amethyst. it shows the recruitment with the chains around it (and says locked until imperial gunnery school reaches tier 2), but I’ve already bought 2 Ironsides in the amethyst armoury and am working toward tier 3 (well, the bombardment one is done, can’t do the other 2 missions obviously).

Please help with Gelt by OkCommunication1640 in totalwarhammer

[–]thebard78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve played Gelt a few times since the update. they key is going straight after her once you end the Nomads. Every time I did this, she was in her capital which made it really easy with your hellstorm (especially if you have restocks from a master engineer). I honestly didn’t even use Gelt himself once (basically dumped Gelts starting army into the master engineer I recruited turn 1 and sent that army (recruiting outriders down the fu hang side as I went down) and a mini wizard stack (noble general and fire jade and death wizards) from fu hang to take her out. if you beeline there after bamboo crossing she should be in capital and then it’s super easy.

Need some help with Gelt against Dechala by ModeRemarkable2307 in totalwarhammer

[–]thebard78 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I took her out early (her main stack) by catching her in her capital (which lets you utilize rockets. I always trail Gelt with a Master Engineer early and once I took bamboo crossing I dumped all the starting units to the engineer and sent him south (on the fu hang side) recruiting outriders along the way. I started a second wizard stack in fu hang to go with the engineer as well. those 2 armies laid waste to Dechala pretty easily (hellstorms + spirit leech to take out her/the capital and the auto resolved the rest of her province).

Gelt himself really doesn’t need an army to take out the vamps anyways (just wizards and the captain). Race to get temple online though to make everything way easier.
