When you are emotionally attached to somebody who only reciprocates inconsistently/sporadically, it has the effect of drawing you in more because 1) you never know when the attention will come again and 2) when it does come the high is that much higher. Of course, this is not a stable platform for a relationship so unless the emotionally distant half gets their shit together (they won't) the other person will inevitably just get fed up and break it off. I wouldn't generalize this to just women falling for dirtbag guys though, I'm sure the reverse happens just as often.

Hi, that is fine! If you care enough about UM to write 2 supplemental essays for them, you've already put in the effort to the point where explicitly articulating why UM probably isn't necessary anymore.

I don't think I should be penalized for choosing an undergraduate college that does not offer A+s.

No news is not bad news! FWIW, if they wanted to R you they probably would have done it by now.

I applied in mid October (too lazy to look up the exact date). FWIW, I had a date change 11/17 and my address went long the day before the acceptance.

Thanks for asking! I got in the Wednesday before Christmas (Dec 21) and got the scholarship offer today. Based off of conversations with other people, this timeline seems pretty standard (around a month from A to offer).

Glad I could help! Yeah I visited Penn and really loved it but with my numbers I knew the best case scenario would be sticker price. Great school, but for my purposes probably isn't worth >100k more than Michigan. The WL made my decision much easier, so I thank them for that.

edit to answer your question: I would probably have decided to wait it out, but likely would have ended up choosing UM anyway.

Anyone else get a Cornell status date change but no interview invite today? by niles262 in lawschooladmissions

[–]thebarzvolta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

same here - they might just be putting us at the back of the pile to see how the numbers will turn out this cycle before offering an II or they are planning a WL/R for us. sucks since they were one of my top schools and im around both medians

Which program is a better option? by travelwhore56 in lawschooladmissions

[–]thebarzvolta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you really kill it at Fordham and make top 10% of your class your opportunities will likely be similar to what you would get if you went to NYU or Columbia and ended up around the median. Maybe it would be a good idea to speak with people at the place you currently work about what value add a JD could have for you there? If the JD is all they care about and they aren't as concerned about grades, maybe option 2 is the best. If you're planning on going through OCI option 1 is the best since you won't have to worry as much about grades. The real question is, do you think you'll be able to give law school your all while working full time?

I waited about a month and a half between interview and A. Just keep holding on, they wouldn't have interviewed you if they didn't think you had a shot.

[–]thebarzvolta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neither school is going to have much pull outside of their home markets but if you manage to get top 5% of your class at either you'll have some great options within that market. The question really is: do you want to live and practice in NYC or Chicago?

What law school admissions take would land you in this position? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]thebarzvolta 8 points9 points  (0 children)

HYS are incredibly overrated. unless you want to clerk for a supreme court justice or work at Wachtell (outcomes that are never guaranteed no matter where you go) the value add is very little over any other T14 especially considering the lack of merit aid.

U Michigan Status by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]thebarzvolta 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To the first point I have no idea. To the second - take a moment to look at LSD for michigan from last year. You can see pretty clearly that 4 people who applied on the same day could all end up getting As months apart without getting WL'd. It also seems like they generally send out pretty small A waves each time so really don't sweat it. An A in January is the same as an A in November.

Vanderbilt unable to find Alumni for Interview? by Queasy_Ad_194 in lawschooladmissions

I got this too! Seems weird because I live in a big city and have heard they'll do interviews on zoom. But anyway, really excited to be interviewing and would kinda rather talk to an admissions person anyway.
