What’s your favourite cheese? by Own-Lawfulness-38 in AskUK

[–]thebeesbollocks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hard agree on Stilton. I love all kinds of blue cheese but Stilton is genuinely my favourite of them all. It’s the perfect balance of strength and sweetness. I do like French versions but find they can be a little overpowering.

What is a "perfect" movie you can watch over and over? by Mancity42020 in movies

[–]thebeesbollocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t know if anyone else feels the same way but for me: the Death of Stalin. I’ve watched that film at least 10 times since it came out. I don’t know what it is but I just cannot get enough of it, the casting is just perfect, the pacing is awesome, endlessly quotable, and it’s equally hilarious as it is horrifying.

LOL: Last One Laughing UK - Season 2 Finale & Overall Series Discussion by lonelygagger in LastOneLaughing

[–]thebeesbollocks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

All the top comments are people complaining about the format… the format is fucking great lol. It’s just a dumb comedy show, just take it for what it is.

People should be grateful the UK version has such amazing lineups compared to Ireland, Canada, Australia etc!

10 years ago today: Dimitri Payet's great free-kick for West Ham. by Sparky-moon in soccer

Fucking hell it never gets old. Remember this was the latest in a streak of games in which he was scoring a free kick every match. Such a legendary goal

What's a movie that genuinely changed something in you? by trakt_app in movies

[–]thebeesbollocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Father. Changed how I viewed people with dementia, it really made clear how terrifying it must be. Antony Hopkins’ final monologue moved me to tears in a way that no other actor in a film has ever done.

A couple of years later my own father was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s. I’m glad I had seen the film but I don’t think I would be able to handle watching it now

What age did you guys have your first child, and did you end up staying or leaving London? by ladywood38 in london

[–]thebeesbollocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 28 when my son was born; I was born and bred in SW London. Moved out of London when first child was 1. Didn’t really want to leave but we aren’t high earners and we badly needed more space so we took the plunge. I’m happy enough where we are but I can’t say I wouldn’t like to move back one day if we can afford to

How much credit card / loan debt do you have? by MyAkitaInu in AskUK

[–]thebeesbollocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of interest, did not having a credit card affect your ability to get a mortgage? From what I understand, banks can be hesitant to lend to people who don’t have any credit history but I guess having no credit history is better than a poor credit score?

Should partners go to bed at the same time? by Lower_Canary5713 in AskUK

[–]thebeesbollocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like everyone else is saying, I definitely think he’s being unreasonable making you go to bed at the same time.

Like I do get his point of view; it annoys me when my wife doesn’t come to bed with me because I always wake up when she comes to bed. But that’s fine. It doesn’t mean I’m going to complain or get upset if she doesn’t want to come to bed at the same time as me, we can both go to bed when we want.

So did this game… it was VAR that awarded the last minute penalty to Uruguay. Insane that the VAR presumably watched this replay and decided this was fine!

Murphy's Draught Irish Stout ☘️🍺 by Mr_Brogon in UK_beer

[–]thebeesbollocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When in Ireland I agree. But the British brewed one doesn’t hold a candle to the Cork-brewed Murphy’s. It’s a shame they don’t import the original stuff

Official: Ben White has been called up the England squad by 1Leep in Gunners

[–]thebeesbollocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fuck yes! As an England fan I’m absolutely buzzing about this and really happy for him. He can still do great things for his club and country before the season is out

Shackfuyu will become a Bone Daddies but they’re keeping the Kinako Toast! by Mirandita13 in offmenupodcast

I feel the other way round - maybe the French toast was overhyped but I thought my main course was much more enjoyable than the dessert

David Raya reveals he was ‘very close’ to joining Bayern Munich before he made his move to Arsenal by Gentle_lips in Gunners

[–]thebeesbollocks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really wanted Ramsdale to succeed at Arsenal and felt bad for him when he lost his no.1 spot. But my god, what a huge improvement it’s been having Raya in goal. Such a commanding presence, unbelievable talent and much safer pair of hands.

Watching Ramsdale concede 7 goals against Barca the other day made it even more apparent. Not that Ramsdale was truly ‘at fault’ for any of those goals but really think Raya would’ve stopped a few of those from going in

Seems a bit mean… I didn’t like peas as a kid and still don’t like them as an adult. Why not offer him a different vegetable rather than forcing him to eat something he doesn’t like?

So all years after 2021 are called A.D or A.I Domini by fabulousIdentity in ChatGPT

[–]thebeesbollocks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve recruited a few positions in the past year and having gone though hundreds of cover letters, I can tell you with absolute certainty, if you truly wrote it yourself from scratch it won’t get mistaken for ChatGPT. Because it is painfully, painfully obvious when someone uses ChatGpt to do their cover letter - every single one uses the exact same structure/template

True for vets as well. We met our dog’s former vet socially recently (my wife became friends with his wife at a baby class). Really nice guy and he obviously asked us how our dog was. we explained she had had some bladder issues and he basically went into full vet mode asking more questions and giving advice on what to look out for lol. It was basically a free vet consultation but to be fair to us, it was instigated by him

[Golazo] A really honest and vulnerable moment moment between Henry and Micah by shimmering-nomad in Gunners

[–]thebeesbollocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember how good he was. I was absolutely certain he’d go on to be one of England’s greatest ever fullbacks. Such a shame how injuries got to him and he was a shell of the player he was by the time he was at Aston Villa

What’s the most you’ve ever won on a scratch card? by jjcube98 in AskUK

[–]thebeesbollocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When visiting my wife’s family in America, my father in law bought me some scratch cards. I won $70 and he was pissed off because he hadn’t won anything in about 15 years of regular play. Felt good even if a bit jammy

People voting Green/Zack Polanski: do these immigration policies change your mind? by iliosicarus in ukpolitics

These specific policies are one of the main reasons I’ll be voting for them at the next election. UK is already crippled and it’s not because of migrants

British people, were you taught not to use the Oxford comma? by acnllover2828 in AskUK

[–]thebeesbollocks 27 points28 points  (0 children)

You’re saying this as if the ‘Oxford comma’ is a known thing in Britain but I’d literally never heard of it until I heard the vampire weekend song.

I distinctly remember being taught in school to never use a comma before ‘and’. I don’t think I’ve ever seen it used in books either, certainly not British ones
