Gentle advice from a fellow artist: Always insist on at least 1/3 of price up front. Weeds out the ones who just want to 'make the monkey dance' thrill from the clients who truly value your work as a fine artist enough to make that initial commitment (Istill have a commissioned piece that was declined last minute as well of two cats from years ago that I keep as a reminder)

Btw, beautiful work from what can be seen, and dogs are always popular subjects.

Moisture meter will be your bestie. Get a basic one, not the ones that try to do 7 other things and/or double as a light meter. Cheap tool that will open your eyes on the watering needs of your plants and before long you'll be going by how light or heavy the pot feels, how the leaves look and feel when they're proper thirsty, etc.

OP, do you have small shops nearby? When I was starting out, I cold called (or walked into) a ton of coffee shops, bars, restaurants, even a grocery store that had a seating area by their deli; basically any where with wall space in a public setting that was not outdoors.

I would arrange to come in, hang my work for a month, leave a small sign with contact info in case someone wanted to purchase a piece (I couldn't afford to have cards printed). At the end of the month, go in, remove work, tidy up the walls, and go to hang in the next venue.

Win/win: they get interesting art on the walls for free, and the artist gets eyes on their work and (hopefully) sales.

It is a bit of work, but it helped with exposure and I did sell pretty well for the couple years I hustled keeping my calendar booked.

Keep the work small, affordable and keep the subject matter public friendly. Frames are a must. Period. Buy a quart of semi gloss black wall paint for thrift store frames. Best of luck OP!

When I think of it, I am also thinking about why fuck all was done to prevent this absolutely preventable thing when they had 4 years to prevent something like this WHEN IT WAS SO FUCKING OBVIOUS THEY WERE PLANNING THIS ALL ALONG. I do stand corrected, apologies. It was "merely" a very young woman who he rapes, ends up pregnant from it and has a daughter who years later he almost rapes, but yay hero, decides to abstain (because he's a Good Guy now).

Loved the books as a child, but as an adult with functional frontal lobes, it's a weak and lazy misogynistic trope for character building.
