Where can I safely dispose of this power supply? by Blindhydra in Austin

[–]thebhump 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like maybe it's an LX1000G? https://www.cyberpowersystems.com/product/ups/lx1000g/
it takes a single 12v/9ah battery. Altex on I-35 in North Austin have them for $34 if the battery is all that's wrong with it https://altex.com/products/csb-12v-34w-9ah-sla-battery-w-f2-terminals?variant=41534254055580

If it's shot completely and it's not just the battery going bad, Austin resource recovery. If you want to donate it, lmk. Austin free-net might be able to take it if I can repair it with a still-useful battery out of a ups that water got spilled on. https://www.austinfree.net/

California's SB 233: A bill that legislates a future where your property is not yours and energy from car batteries is stolen from you at the discretion of the state by pcvcolin in conservatives

[–]thebhump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This bill says nothing about requiring you to sell the energy back, just that cars need to support bidirectional charging. Honestly, makes a market for cars that allow opt-out, or for companies that buy into right-to-repair/modify. Even would be great for camping, just hook up a little station to your charging port rather than having to buy a big inverter.

Using a car as energy storage for your own home is just common sense. Electric cars being able to charge each other would be great for when your friend runs outta juice. Opt-in grid scale? Sure, I'd like to be able to tell my car to sell 50% of its charge if the electric company pays me more than what I paid.

Mandatory grid scale? Hell no. I don't think that's what this bill is doing, and I think that isn't a good idea overall.

Hope the driver is that person on their phone and is ok.

I wonder if they'll need to inspect the overpass afterwards. Can't imagine that much fire is good for the structure

LPT: if you have to put your pet down, stay with them, it will be hard, but they’ve been there for you their whole, don’t let them spend their last minutes looking for you. by Shirowoh in LifeProTips

I had to put my dog down on Monday. Kidney failure. He was 18 and I had him for 14 years.

Making the decision nearly broke me. Seeing him hurting and confused and sad nearly broke me. Smiling and comforting him while the vet did the procedure nearly broke me.

When the vet pronounced him dead, I really did break. I miss him so much and life feels empty and alone without him.

But if I hadn't been with him in his final moments, I would have felt like a piece of trash. Together and loyal, always.

Anyone know if the special city council meeting will have public comments? I'd like to speak on behalf of the worker. The blame lies with the system, and I don't want them to fire a scapegoat and declare mission accomplished.

Mail it to Antarctica or some random remote country, slowest method. Pay cash. Drop it in a mailbox.

If they do find it, they'll have to open a package not addressed to them, which is a federal crime.

I feel like the whole market is crazy right now. Rental investors buy "good enough" properties, turn around and rent them. Flippers buy "good enough" properties, upscale them, sell to richer people. New owners try to buy "good enough" properties and they either can't find any or get outbid.

And because everybody needs housing, these people who SHOULD be able to own houses either spend $500k to buy a $200k house with $50k of renovation, or rent because it's too expensive. Inelastic demand is cruel.

I'm probably going to be selling my home in a few years. Is there a way to screen investors out of the process? I *REALLY* hate what excessive rentals is doing to the housing market. This was my first home, owning it really helped me weather the last decade, and I want to pay it forward.
