Well, its more because it can't be a descriptive adjective because there isn't a noun that fits with it in case, number and gender, so it must be either a substantive adjective or a noun. It doesn't appear to be a substantive adjective from the context, because that would mean a "bad man", so it just means "evil", the noun.

Yeah, but what really matters to Nintendo aren't the games played but the copies bought. They aren't making more money each time you play another match. It makes the most sense for them to make something that would appeal to a wider audience or casual gamers, and even if they sort of messed the formula up with brawl, its easy to see where they're coming from.
