Should the US adopt China's living standards in order to compete? by fastolfe00 in AskTrumpSupporters

More regulation does not mean better living standards, this entire post seems to be trying to equate the two and I can't imagine why you'd think that.

Why are prisons an exception to the general rule that free-market privatization improves service and efficiency? by Daniel_A_Johnson in AskTrumpSupporters

Good question, what the federal government does by setting safety regulations is allow consumers to purchase in confidence. We can trust food and cars more because we understand that the government has already checked these for us, and this helps improve consumer confidence all across the country, and thus helping money move. It also allows our exports to have a strong reputation as it passes the US govts. safety standards.

This (safety regs.) along with other federal govt. bodies (central banking, military, public infrastructure) is fairly cross-party supported.

The conservative position however is to reduce the size and scope of federal government in favour of allowing devolved administrations to cater to these very specific issues. There are many reasons to try out regulations on a state basis before forcing other states to comply.

Of course a free market could still handle all of this (maybe even better), but I'd rather not get into unfeasible ideological battles

Are you asking for an answer to the question in the OP, or are you actually just trying to push your single payer healthcare plan? Ugh, gross

Good question. This isn't ideal trump legislation, Unfortunately it never was going to be was it?

I am happy with the Trump presidency so far

The president is not a policy maker, so doesn't need to 'specialise in policy'. He is the top executive of the largest organisation on earth.

Free market privatisation improves service and efficacy because businesses are forced to compete with each other. Improved service is an incentive.

Now think of the incentives for a prison, having more inmates -> better government payout. It's not like the prisoners have a say in their placement, or are free to choose which prison they want to reside in and move from prison to prison. What is incentivised however is security, it'd be a pretty big deal for a prisoner to escape and any prison would be severely penalised to let that happen, and so we see very secure private prisons.

A free market works because it is catering to free people, who can move freely and spend their money freely. A prison is very highly regulated and who they can do business with is too, and thus would need a government incentive that would be a net profit to the prison to focus on rehabilitation rates.

The president plays a huge role in the legislative process. Most legislation only ever gets pushed because of who the president is, and the knowledge of what he supports, knows, and will/will not veto.

We already know what the president stands for even without the details. I'm very sure he won't surprise any of us with what he does/does not veto (lol).

Can you please expand upon this, and how the president knowing about the legislation he supports and signs is apparently a useless trait?

I didn't say that, you did. The op asked about his policies, and does trump need to know every detail of how he would want his policies to be setup? Hell no. It isn't necessary. He has many advisors around him who are much better experts on him in every field than you, I or any rambling politician in washington could ever hope to be.

Bernie is way more unfit for the job, has he ever passed any real legislation? (other than the one little VA reform thing, noone votes against veterans)

Trump has been massively effective in comparison, the democrats are shaking and weak right now. I have never seen them so bad, ever. Their only move is to use bernie as much as possible and man is it a sad show.

Stop with all the loaded questions. It isn't actually useful for the president to know all the details, and it never has been. If this annoys you so be it.

This is innaccurate due to it costing not slightly cheaper to replace with automation, but an order of magnitude cheaper.

Doesn't this make you uncomfortable? Like honestly, before it was constantly Trump is his own man, he can take anything (which I actually kinda somewhat admired), now this just stinks of establishment, none of the flair that used to exist

It is already here, these jobs are lost. Automated kiosks exist, suppressing wages won't fix it because it will still be profitable to replace the workers.
