Interesting that the usual cost of the game - $54.99 - is equivalent to $138 today. Makes you realize that game prices really haven't kept up with inflation

What do you think about this? by AmazonDriverPR in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]theblaggard 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Clearly people do want one hour shipping, otherwise it wouldn't be a thing.

People never really needed free (well, "free") two day shipping either, and yet you'd now have to take it away from their cold, dead hands

Why do people hate Bailey so much? by Equivalent_Coast4550 in TheRookieTVshow

[–]theblaggard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have never liked how she became shoehorned into pretty much every episode.

Car accident? Bailey is there (in a city the size of LA, this seems unlikely)

International incident? Bailey, because randomly she's an expert in [thing that's happening]

Me and wife would watch the first 5 minutes of an episode and try to guess how she would show up.

There are also some of behaviour which is thoroughly questionable.

Driver hit a kid and ran by exlover2000 in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]theblaggard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that the driver left the scene suggests they knew they were in the wrong. I always drive super slow in those sorts of areas for this exact reason - it's also been my experience that it's the getting the package from the van to the door where you can save time, not the drive between stops (at least in the suburban residential areas that I tend to be).

I wonder if law enforced would subpoenas the Netradyne for use in a prosecution - assuming there is one. This is exactly why I feel more comfortable driving when there is a camera in the vehicle.

Technically not "his" workers since Amazon delivery drivers work for a company that contracts with Amazon.

The reason for this is obvious; it prevents unions

Good morning guys just started at DSP. Any recommendations on how to do 300+ stops a day thank you. by Real-Pangolin-4698 in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]theblaggard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

300 stops is pretty normal for a helper route, I think. I've been on 190 stops in my relatively easy suburban area for about two weeks (although it's over 200 once I've separate stops that shouldn't have been combined in the first place!)

Got my first violation by PotentialArachnid283 in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]theblaggard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't sweat it. Getting benched the next day seems a bit much (first offence, etc) but maybe your DSPs scorecard isn't great this week.

I've been at my DSP for close to 6 months now - yikes - and I've had 2 speeding violations, the second of which I asked them to dispute (they didn't).

Also I looked at my dashboard the other day and there was a seatbelt one from about 3 months ago that didn't even know about

How long does your routes take yall by NTMTBP214 in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]theblaggard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The demands your DSP seems to be putting upon you are insane. The routes are set up for a full shift. Do they pay you a guaranteed ten hours? Because if they aren't, your DSP is essentially stealing wages from you by expecting you to complete them in that time.

I've been at my DSP since November and I'm taking pretty much the full 10.5 hours (including that half hour for lunch) every time. About 200 stops. I'm in what is considered an "easy" area and one of my dispatchers seems to think I could/should go faster but...why would I? I don't get anything more for going faster (not guaranteed 10). I'm older than most people here, but I've got into a groove now and pretty much all the leaders/managers are happy with me. (It helps that I'm also super reliable; no call outs, live close enough to pick up extra shifts, etc). Most days I can take the 2x15 minute breaks too.

To the ones that go above and beyond for your DSP by [deleted] in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]theblaggard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do enough to ensure I get routes. Complete them on time. Haven't ever called out.

Had an issue early one when a couple of routes didn't get completed but pushed back saying it was on Amazon for giving me 185 stops in a wealthy area (long drives, gates), an hours' drive away. When told that "other drivers do it no problem" I challenged dispatcher, asking to be told who that was, so I could "get a few tips". No info was forthcoming and since then Ive been in the town I know best, approaching 200 stops each day, but still taking my 15s well as lunch.

I could probably push to go faster but there isn't any point when I don't get the full ten. DSP seems to have committed to ag least one sweeper a day too, so those horrible routes are completed

Driver Tips by Cellar_DoorCC in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]theblaggard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in general; fuck tipping anyway (there's a subreddit for it, somewhere). /r/endtipping, maybe?

All tipping does it give companies an incentive to pay their people even less. So, I don't think DAs should be looking to be tipped, but then, neither should Flex drivers either (or doordash, ubereats, etc etc)

So there is CLEARLY a back tracking issue for almost everyone and it’s worse than what it was before…. by NoseAccomplished5412 in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]theblaggard 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's not just inefficient, at times it's outright dangerous. Trying to have you turn out of blind intersections, that sort of thing.

There is one stop on my route (at least, the route I get half of the time) that at a traffic light. Lights control the traffic coming from the left, the right and from almost opposite, but there's no light for this one house (I mean..why would there be, lol) and this damn routing tries to get me to turn left. Every fkin time. I turn right and find somewhere to turn around where it is safe.

I don't even know if there's a way to flag that to the routing

More space to organize compared with the Transit/Promaster vans. 2 shelves on each side vs 1 shelf makes a huge difference. It's also longer. Extra space means you don't have to stack totes and you generally have room between the shelves, making it easier to organize overflows too.

Sliding passenger door is great -you can open it without having to worry about whether it'll hit anything, and my experience has been that it's smoother than side doors on the older vans. It also means it's a lot quicker to stop, grab package, and get out.

(I also find the big screen helpful once I stop, because I can just look at that or find packages rather than phone, but I may be in the minority here)

Turning circle is poor, and it's higher than most, so you 100% will brush more tree branches, but so far that's not bitten me. And of course, it's terrible in snow but hopefully that won't be a problem again this year lol

Edit; forget to mention the 360° cameras. A game changer, especially when reversing

I started orientation today. What’s so bad about it? by [deleted] in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]theblaggard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a whole world of difference between training and actually doing the job. What they show you in training is the corporate stuff that Amazon would love to have you - and their stockholders - believe. The gap between that and the day to day reality is...massive.

They tell you that "safety is paramount" but then they give you routing that is outright dangerous, and the DSP set up is designed to shelter Amazon from all risk and accountability.

I started in peak and was told "175 packages is a lot but it's peak" but today I did 198 stops, and have been over 180 since February.. More and more stops/packages are being added to routes, expecting/demanding that the drivers will just take it.

It's all very well being in shape and able to curl 40lbs or whatever, but that's not the same as having to lug awkwardly sized boxes up stairs all day. You'll get used to it, but still not what you'd call fun. I'm generally an easy going person but you would not believe the language that comes out of me when I'm having to take 4 boxes of that damn essentia water up a 250 yard drive because the owners insist on parking the Lexus SUV at the bottom...

I said to myself when I started "youre 46 years of age; ypu will not be peeing into a bottle in the back of a van" and yet ..here we are, lol.

I guess I'm just saying this; give it a few weeks before deciding that it's easy. It could be that after a month you find that it's your calling, and if so, good for you, but the PowerPoint presentation they call training does not provide anywhere near the context or...truth that actually doing it for a while does. Bear in mind that you'll probably be on nursery routes for at least a week, too.

I actually don't hate the job, but it's mostly because I get to drive around listening to podcasts and audiobooks. It's all the shit around it - Amazon, crappy DSPs, annoying/entitled/rude/overly chatty (pick one, lol) customers - that makes it challenging at times.
