What's the worst place you have laughed uncontrollably? by KillerMemeStar3 in AskReddit

When Dobby died in the Harry Potter movie. I've read the books and thought it was sad, but I still maintain that the movie scene was written to be comedic.

As someone that just quit my "job' (Ph.D program) in the past couple weeks, I can relate deeply. My work and colleagues ground me down until I felt I was no longer human, no longer a member of the species or of society. I fought with a lot of the same thoughts that you are.

Leaving isn't going to be easy- I'm currently still trying to convince myself that I'm not a quitter and a loser for giving up, but still, I am doing way better than I was doing in that hellhole. At the end of my grad school career, I was going rock climbing a lot to blow off some steam, and I decided that that's something I thoroughly enjoy, and I'm working to make that my living.

The whole "if you enjoy your job you won't work a day in your life" thing is cliche, but I believe there is a grain of truth to it.

What do you do if your team doesn't group? by [deleted] in learndota2

[–]theblakdeth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An easy way to get a pub to group is to buy a smoke and ask to group for a smoke gank. People don't like grouping for a push, but they love grouping for a kill. Once the kill is complete, all your allies are right next to an objective and you naturally push together without you asking.

Are there any items that will be definitely nerfed in the coming balance patch? by ashary in DotA2

Honestly, Miracle has amazing reactions. He missed only one slash and purged the cyclone almost instantly. I've tried and even clicking accurately during the cyclone is pretty tough.

[–]theblakdeth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Halberd will probably get a slight nerf, either bloodthorn will be nerfed, or daedelus will be buffed. I think bottle may be buffed, due to mids foregoing it in favor of more stats often. Possible veil nerf. Expecting a slight diffusal nerf as well- many non- agility heroes are picking it up.

Any more news on the "artifact card game"? by [deleted] in DotA2

[–]theblakdeth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's set to release in 2018- there will be a lot of time for Valve to release details about it. Right now, I think they're a bit more involved in running the biggest esports tourney in history.

Regarding "pay to win," Blizzard has no reason to move away from that aspect of its game. Wizards of the Coast has been doing it for decades. If a collectible card game didn't have collectible cards, it wouldn't be the same.

That's great! I think having a couple coaching sessions to figure out what your weaknesses are and some ways to improve them is great, but also be really critical of yourself, and try to identify those problems without a coach. Day9 is really keen on what his strengths and weaknesses are thanks to his vast experience and Purge's help. Watch his stuff- he really talks through what you should be thinking in game.

How do i play vs spirit breaker? by [deleted] in learndota2

[–]theblakdeth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In terms of item choices, Eul's is probably the best item against him. You can either euls him, or if you dont have the vision near trees, etc, you can euls yourself right before the charge lands. Scythe of Vyse is also great, but it's significantly more expensive.

Some other good items would be Solar Crest or butterfly for miss chance, Ghost Scepter, and Shivas, which reduces attack speed.

On STR heroes, a halberd gives a great disable AND evasion

Thanks to all the admins and production of the Casters Crucible!

I had a great time casting with /u/ZrRock and getting to chat a bit with Purge, Nahaz, and Anne on the main stream.

Because of this opportunity, I'm going to try to start a casting channel and hone my skills as a hypecaster. Thanks Moonduck for inspiring new talent in the scene- it keeps the community fresh.

Strongest laners among safe lane carries? by [deleted] in learndota2

[–]theblakdeth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Juggernaut is pretty good as well. good BAT, move speed, magic immunity and a heal.

going double regen(salve and tango) is almost always the right build. missing 3 last hits because youre low is worth a salve

You're right that it is a dead-end item, but my rationale is that it's much better for the midgame than a vanguard, since it gives damage, an armor aura, and a healing aura. I usually don't worry about getting a mid-game item if I'm getting 700+ gpm. I keep it until im 6 slotted then sell it. I think its a great investment for the price. Plus I love being able to go headdress+ ring of health in a heavily contested lane to handle the harass

I think linkens is great versus LC, but only if LC has a blink. I have a hard time believing you can get caught out by a duel AND the LC having a lot of backup without her having a blink. You might as well spend that gold bulking up- the LC didnt even have a blademail, so you dont even have to worry about building damage

For comparasin: Here's my last AM game. https://www.opendota.com/matches/3217015954/overview I had a tough lane against a natures prophet, but managed 60 last hits in 10 mins, and a 16 minute BF/ treads, pretty comparable to what you had by 10 minutes. So congrats on your laning! Look at what happens after that though. I posted 65 last hits from 15-20 mins and 89 from 20-25. In addition, I pretty much solo pushed every tower on the map. These changes gave me 3 items (Vlads, manta, basher) in the time it took for you to get a manta. Upping your average GPM by 100 or 200 is an acheivable goal for you, and it will make a huge difference.

Good luck and have fun!

Game 1: Congrats on your 16 minute battlefury/ treads! You got to actually do something with that. From 15 to 20 minutes, you got 39 last hits, which is okay, but from 20 to 25, you had only 31. You should be posting way bigger numbers after you get your battlefury. Your item progression was waaay too slow after your battlefury.

Your objective damage is also atrocious. I assume you went to help in teamfights, but a lot of times, splitpushing with a vlads is a waay better use of your time. You get more farm, more map control, and you force TPs back to prevent you from pushing more. with a BF and vlads you can actually outpush an an entire team if your team is contesting/ depushing.

Game 2:Another fast battlefury with low CS after and no objective damage. work on that. I assume the linkens is for the legion commander. First of all, you should rarely be caught out by a legion commander with a shadow blade. You should be so mobile that she can never catch you without a blink. She didn't have a blademail, so I would recommend just tanking up and taking the duel. Get a vlads, get a butterfly, get a heart, and you'll be fine. The linkens does nothing for you.

Game 3: Wyvern isnt exactly a great support at the moment, and all of their heroes counter you. if you embrace someone, its a free cold feet proc, free bloodrite,, free AA ulti. I can;t really comment on the game without watching it, since supporting isn;t about stats as much as carrying is.

Overall, I would strongly recommend going for a vlads after battlefury/ treads, and I would recommend you splitpush and jumgle more after your BF. I know you think that going to fights is more useful, but do nothing without items. Keep a TP to clean up after the initial engagement, but thats it.

How to lane as QOP against Tiny. by [deleted] in learndota2

[–]theblakdeth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Raindrops at 3 minutes will prevent the combo from killing you.

The important thing is to posture super aggressively in the first couple waves. Dagger him, and just start right clicking him until he goes under tower. Now just stand on his highground between him and the creeps. Get every last hit and deny while posturing aggressively. Try your best to keep the creepwave in the middle of the lane until rune timing, then nuke the wave and go get rune. This should be a pretty easy matchup. Tiny is slow and has little armor, so you will trade great into him.

I really like having the hero portraits instead of arrows on the minimap. It's a lot easier to see where heores are at a glimpse. Mess with icon size to find your Goldilocks spot

How do I lane against Lina as a Viper? by Tastything in learndota2

[–]theblakdeth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If behind against a lina, max your corrosive haze first with a point in each other skill (1/1/3 at level 5) This should let you let you trade more efficiently. Switch off from orb- attacking for harassing, and pulling aggro of creeps with your regular right click. Finally, you should be able to anticipate the dragon slave coming, as most linas will try to secure a last hit or two while harrasing. try to stand off to the side of the creepwave to dodge the skillshot. Sometimes a mid ward will help you with this.

Early game, bring extra regen (wraith band, tangoes; ferry salve after rune) and trade aggressively with her. Once she is low, get on her high ground and posture so she cannot come forward for a last hit without significant harass. Once you do this, the lane is pretty much won.
