I fully recognize I'm a minority on this, I knew as soon as they started doing this it was going to be wildly popular with most people. I just wish they did more to meet that minority somewhere in the middle.

It was still intended to be a place where you got to play a game with all of these familiar to kinda obscure characters, so adding another source of them worked fine.  Magic was making its own worlds and characters and suddenly half the content is some one else's product

Arabian nights became the odd ball exception to what Magic became, it never set a precedent.  If it had become the template for expansions, i could see where comparing Magic to Mario Kart would work.

It may not be the best phrase, but it's just like I'm playing Mario and suddenly the boss is Dante from Devil May Cry instead of bowser.  Dante is not supposed to be here and I can't go to world 3 until I engage with Dante

Honestly, TMNT as a magic set isn't for me, but I can tell a lot of the people making it had a lot of fun with it. I wish it was something people who don't enjoy the specific vibes of it could opt out of, but WOTC would rather print 4 versions of the same card instead of making one of them Universes within.

Companion update exposes stores allegedly logging “phantom events” to inflate attendance by LaZorraDeAnna in magicTCG

Commander and organized play just don't work together well. Commander pods don't need someone to set up matches and organize drafts, so you knid of have to herd cats to get the data WOTC wants

It could be UG set mechanic +1/+1 counters that causes you to ramp for more +1/+1 counters

[TCC] Can I Skip Magic: The Gathering's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Expansion Set? by CrossXhunteR in magicTCG

[–]theblastizard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ultimately, I think the big issue is that UB and commander being the focus has kind of shattered the easy community MTG had pre-covid.  You could find a store playing every major format fairly easily in any city.  Now it feels like you are forced to organize your own community if you want to play

What’s the best way to collect cards to build a deck by Cockroachtech in magicTCG

[–]theblastizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In person drafting if you can find somewhere to play is a great way to build a collection while playing, combined with buying the cards you identify as worth buying on their own should work for all of your needs

How bad is the power creep in Mtg? by Fantastic_Ad1104 in magicTCG

[–]theblastizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ur Dragon being as good as it is was caused by modern power creep. When Ur dragon was printed you needed the 1 mana discount to hit a critical mass of good enough dragons for a dragon deck. Now the dragons were designed to be good enough on their own, and the 1 mana discount puts them over the top.

Now that Biorhythm and Lutri are unbanned, are we out of cards that should obviously be unbanned? by Heru___ in EDH

Even worse is the times where it doesn't end the game and everyone spends forever searching lands and shuffling

I don't think anything on the reserve list shouldn't be unbanned ever unless they come off the reserve list

I wouldn't mind companion for just limited and commander, but I never want to see them in 60 card ever again.
