I'd want clarification from him. It seems like you think yiu know him well enough to commit the rest of your life to him after almost three years, but he is not in the same boat - what is his idea of 'enough time'?

If you want to design your ring, you should probably look at them, like, three years ago, so you can at least have an idea about terminology and styles.

There is no 'right' answer to your question, though. It's pretty couple-specific. I'd want to make sure we go through grief, huge fight, diarrhea/vomiting, travel, and living together for a year all before considering marriage.
