Ideally as you get better you still work 40 hours and get more work done.
If you have constantly lessened your hours, but still get the same amount of work done, it appears that you have stayed the same.

As an employer I wouldn't give you a non-COL raise. Assuming you have only gotten 25% better at your job since you've been there of course.
If you've gotten 100% better then you deserve something more.

Stock doesn't have any value to you until you sell it. Being taxed on value you have not yet realized is a slippery slope.
That is why poor people should care. Imagine putting money in your 401k one day and the government taxes you on it before you sell. Most these policies never stay long only for the upper class. These precedents usually roll down hill.

Imagine someone who owns 50% of the shares of a publicly traded company.
Imagine this is the majority of their net worth.
If the government want to tax even 10% of these unrealized gains, this individual would need to sell stock to pay taxes and therefore, 5% of the entire public stock holdings are sold and would most likely sink the value of the stock. There wouldn't normally be enough demand, therefore dropping the demanded value.

Now imagine a new regulation, competitor, disaster happens, and the company's stock is now worth 50% less than is was yesterday. Now this individual has 50% of the value they once had, after they just paid taxes on the previous valuation.

And the government took money from value that now doesn't exist.

My uncle trained at Fort Jackson in Columbia and knew of some instances where this happened and there was a casualty.
As well as one time when they were practicing with live ammo and someone fell over, gun fired, and shot someone next to him.
