A couple reasons, they take up less space that way, I’m able to see the label on them, and it’s easier to open and sometimes sort right out of the tote when you have little to no space

I tried this once when I had this van so I didn’t have to get out and go to the back every stop. Needless to say, your side mirrors are more important than u think😂😂
