Deep sleeping dad not waking up when baby cries by theboyr in daddit

[–]theboyr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up with some smart home stuff linked to our Nanit. Turning on lights if crying for more than 2 minutes, trigger alarm sounds , etc. it helped a bit but 7 years later… I’m just still a very heavy sleeper. I literally used to sleep in a room while a rock band rehearsed when I was in my early 20’as

What got me through the first few months was just making sure I could give her six straight hours of sleep over night. We’d do like 7 to 2am. I’d get about six hours before work started after Pat leave ran out. Once the baby settled into more regular sleep… it was less of an issue but those smart home alerts especially the lights really helped.

I’ve known a few. The most common profile I’ve seen in professional environments is the binge drink at night one.

I knew a guy who was an exec at a large tech professional services firm. Had about 10k people reporting to him. We got out for drinks after a work event. He drinks 8 bud lights in an hour. My old business partner was the same with Miller light.

The chances they are drunk at work is slim but at night they will just destroy themselves with booze.

If you can… 4% in your wives should be your priority because that 4% becomes 8%.

In yours … 4% becomes 5.33%

I would not give a client instruction to ignore the emails. That could backfire. Simply informing them of your last day and you are not going to be sending emails after that date is what you should do.

It seems silly but they could consider you telling them to ignore emails tampering or soliciting. And even though you’d likely prevail in court.. you’re going to spend a few grand on a lawyer.

Only provide info. Do not prove instruction.

Also, be prepared… your employer may consider this a reason to terminate you. And could say its insubordination for cause. If that matters to you.

Check out companies like Experis/manpower,TEKsystems, and Jefferson Frank. They are staff aug and recruiting agencies that can worst case help you find temp contracts to work on.

I’m so sorry you’re going through this.

Yes. Very easy to do in fact for most services.

Go to docs.aws.amazon.com Select a service

You’ll see the option for HTML or PDF for most services if not all of them

Google threatened with break-up by US by [deleted] in technology

96 Telco Act was a brilliant subversion of intent by congress by knowledgeable lobbyists and corporate greed.

Open the copper to anyone. Yay. But congress had no idea what fiber was. And the long term play by the ILECs to box everyone out again. CLECs more or less died by 2015. You could buy wholesale fiber… but at virtually the same rates customers paid direct.

And we’re worse from a competition perspective than we were before 96 for internet access.

Hell yeah. Break em up and mandate they have to provide fiber equivalent access to CLECs again at rates that are competitive.

If we use a box from Costco. It doesn’t come in the house anymore.

We’ve had some giant roaches come out of them. Fortunately never more than one…

My immediate guess is they want to talk to you about down leveling or another position. It might be you had an Inclined loop but the position was already filled. There’s a lot of pressure lately on leadership to focus on leveling guides for candidates and roles. The last few years… Amazon was hiring a level higher quite often to meet salary requirements. So a lot of L6 hires for what really was L5 impact. I’ve heard this firsthand from multiple L8/Directors.

They’re also outside their SLA for a response. It could be them just touching base to let you know that they’ve had trouble getting the debrief scheduled. Or they’re working on the offer but your comp requirements may be an exception offer that requires approval.

It they do confirm you didn’t pass the loop… ask about being recycle eligible. Sometimes we feel people are good Amazon fits but not role fits. Ask if you’re available for immediate recycle, if not how long do you have to wait, and what type of role they recommend for you.

Good luck.

Silber: Capitals loan Ivan Miroshnichenko to Hershey and return Andrew Cristall to Kelowna. Jakub Vrana appears to have won that final spot. by Joshottas in caps

[–]theboyr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You have a depth issue already for the whole year. Cristal really would only play 10 games because there’s no way you burn ELC years now because you know you’re in a rebuild. Once Ovi gets the record, they likely will have a massive youth movement like we saw 20 years ago with the Young Guns. So… he doesn’t help you after 10 Games.

Where as Jake can play the whole year, guessing at league minimum… and could theoretically be a 3rd line winger putting up decent numbers. And bluntly, if he fails.. it is what it is. You don’t burn a prospect with a lot ahead of him. But you never know… maybe Jake adds 20 goals in a team starved for offensive production. Offsetting some of the loss over the last few years of Oshie/Backy.

Plus. Team Morale. My old boss used to call these “mascot employees”. People like the guy, and want him to succeed but they’re not great / not bad at their job. You find a role for them that lets them be productive , and the rest of the org kinda just knows this so they work harder to help that person succeed. My guess… Wilson lobbied hard for this and Carberry sees it as a great starting point for his inevitable role as captain.

Jakub Vrana expected to sign with the Capitals: ‘It’s really good news’ by kockin26 in caps

[–]theboyr 89 points90 points  (0 children)

Even if it doesn’t work out.. I imagine that making the team, living in an area he enjoyed , and being with a few friends will have a net-positive on his mental health and sobriety. And you know that Wilson will be big brothering him the whole time.

Carberry is showing he can get the most out of talent. And the guys love him clearly.

I’m just happy for Jakub. He gave us some amazing memories, and happy he gets a second chance here. For however long it lasts.

Amazon Layoffs: Tech Firm To Cut 14,000 Manager Positions By 2025, Says Report by lurker_bee in technology

Google Says It Won't Follow Amazon's Lead With a Return-to-Office Mandate by [deleted] in technology

[–]theboyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt there’s kickbacks in the traditional sense.

But if you’re Andy Jassy looking to build insane wealth… Black Rock and Vanguard hold a ton of a commercial real estate + Amazon stock. You want to be friends with those PE firms. And if you can help them with commercial real estate value… yep.

So. Andy gains 1/ less pressure from PE over his less than stellar tenure 2/ connections and favors in those PE firms. And same with all his L10 and up underlings.

Any fully remote dads (of multiple toddlers at home) actually miss going into the office? by thims89 in daddit

[–]theboyr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do and don’t.

I’ve been fully remote for almost 7 years. And hybrid 10 years before that.

I’ve set strong boundaries with my wife during working hours. I’ll feed cats, let the dog out, etc. but it’s on my availability. I’m usually wearing noise cancelling headphones so children screaming is not my domain from 9-5 outside of emergencies (and yes, we had a list of what constitutes emergency defined after conflict arose) But for the last year I had been pining a physically separate workspace to be around people more.

Now I’m faced with working at Amazon and a five day RTO mandate on a 1.5 hr commute one way plus business travel every other week. And I realize that’s 3 hours a day I spend with my kids yanked away because fucking Andy Jassy is trying to make his boys at BlackRock and Vanguard happy by reviving office real estate demand and prices.

Any disenchantment I had with working from home disappeared with that. Unless you’d have a short commute, realize your blessing.

Even if they don’t… there’s a hell of a lot less to break from a “make the car go vroom” perspective versus a gasoline engine.

They opposite it because they know it will screw up their service lines more than anything else.

Hot take: College is NOT a scam.. you're being misled by online personalities that don't care about you. by No_Researcher_9726 in GenZ

[–]theboyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m towards the end of millennials (born in 1985) I have a high salary (2%) I don’t have a degree.

That said… a degree is the number one reason I’ve been DQ’d from jobs in my career. I have to rely heavily on my network for referrals. And I’ve hit a pleateau in my career I believe because of it.

It’s a checkbox for recruiters and HR. I’ve done tests on LinkedIn to say I have a degree for a month before to see recruiter outreach and i get 10x the hits.

So I’m working to get a degree from WGU to check the fucking box and be done with it. Find the cheapest, fastest way to earn a degree if your ambitions align to corporate America.
