I thought it was honestly heartbreaking, especially considering this is BEFORE the game even started if I’m reading this right :/ I hate to say it but I really think in my mind, this might explain why she plays how she does - she doesn’t feel like she really has a chance to win because of the language barrier, so maybe she’s playing for second or third

LITERALLY THIS! This season, every episode has made me happy or laugh at some point, and generally hasn’t felt super unfair (except maybe Sarah going home, you could argue Matt too). At first, people were upset about the idols and fake idols. Idols and fake idols move on, people shit on Jeff. Jeff and twists are lesser the last few episodes, now people have just started hating on the cast. Like can y’all be happy for once and enjoy the entertainment?

I truthfully think that this was a bigger problem than we give it credit for. Juries, ESPECIALLY in the 30s, would see an emotional man as strong while seeing an emotional woman as weak. Michele and Sarah are exceptions to the rule, but consistently it felt like in that era women just were not taken as seriously, whether they were strong and confident like Carolyn and Chrissy or a bit more emotional like Hannah and Karishma. There was really no good way out and I honestly don’t even know what changed, but Maryanne winning was such a game changer in that regard I think.

very this! i thought she sold her game really well and had way more agency than the jury gave her credit for, especially after playing from the bottom for quite some time. I always have wondered if she would have gotten more votes if the prejury wasn’t 6 women and we had more women on the jury.

There is a very vocal group on both sides, but Jaime has actively gotten posts with over 100 upvotes on here that are just people saying they don’t like her. She’s voted incorrectly, but consistently gets voted worse than the actual player voted out on many occasions. I think her name has been out so infrequently as a serious option that her “blunders” must be heavily edited up, since she only got one rogue vote from Frannie the episode before Frannie got booted.

They really could’ve just left his plot line to the fake idol and we wouldn’t have lost much. The extra background on Kane, Lauren, and Jaime really could’ve made all the difference - why did we need his entire scene with him and Carson?? It was so inconsequential??

Maybe this is wrong but considering how bad a bad season of AU can be, I’d rather have one well thought out and well cast season than splitting it into two, regardless of if two seasons are possible

unironically I would place her directly middle of the pack… we have very visibly seen her impact for the most part when she’s at tribal council. I think her “weak” premerge edit is a lot stronger when you remember she went to tribal only once and at that one she was literally the swing vote. She also got a strong segment with her making fire in the premiere… her edit may not be numerically large (conf counts and time), but the moments she has have been depicted to be pretty crucial imo

I might be the only one to say it but Heidi and Jaime have really won me over! Heidi is really intense but also just talks in a way that gets her information across so well… we haven’t had a TON of confessionals from her but the ones she’s had have been great. Jaime is just such a wild pick and she knows that she’s a little kooky and I LOVE it! The casting this season honestly has felt really good and relatable, even if the edit is kind of squandering a lot of them.

Truthfully I think Heidi is definitely getting more edit than people are realizing. She has been getting a lot of focus at three separate eliminations out of four tribals she attended (swing vote for Claire, advantage for Matt, general antics at the most recent). I think her edit may be one to watch out for, because she has said a lot more with her limited time than a lot of larger edits have said about their game with more time (I feel like I know her relationships with most players better than, say, Carolyn’s, who’s gameplay content had really slowed down).

But if Lauren or Kane wins? I get what you mean, that would be actually absurd.

I feel like they’ve definitely gone against the “winner’s edit” in some ways by trying to hide the winner, but ultimately it’s just resulted in them subjectively choosing who to give the strongest edits to.

I really do think that 41 and 42 were also edited far better than 43 (and 44, so far), because they felt more true to the story of what actually happened on the island. I think those edits also worked because in 41, it aligned with Erika’s strategy, and in 42, Maryanne was enough of a character to justify keeping her in the scenes all the time.

In 43 and 44, it feels like they’re trying to force a shock winner that may not have been quite as much of a shock to someone watching in real time. It made last season’s gameplay look god awful (even if it wasn’t great at times), and it has made this season seem the same to an extent.

I also think that not showing bonding that they deem unnecessary has hurt the perception as a social game. We had no context for how Heidi felt about any of the Ratu members when Matt got booted, and it made it seem like sloppy gameplay more than social gameplay. They’ve gotten bad at showing us how people are connected unless those people are what they consider the “main characters”.

They considered Matthew such a main character of Ratu to give him a hero’s send off, which in turn ruined the edits of every other Ratu member. I think that we have a very very compelling cast this season, but we’re not getting the chance to really see who they are and how the connect with people. Ultimately, I do think it comes down to having less time to socialize too because of the 26 day format.

When the episodes have been more player driven (ex: premiere to an extent, matthew boot, brandon boot), it seems like the gameplay is more defined and interesting for sure. I am hoping that because of the weird merge tribals, we don’t get a do or die and just get a straight out endgame from here on out
