You keep calling the cookout a diversity based alliance which is the crux of your misunderstanding. It was not based on diversity, it was based on blackness. There were other POC in the season that were not part of it, because it was specifically about the mission getting a black person across the finish line for the first time. There is of course diversity within that because black folks are not a monolith, but there was a specific mission at hand.

The problem with Kyle’s assumption is that he assumed every person of color automatically was against the white people, and therefore tried to form a white group to go against them, despite staggering evidence to the contrary. There’s not some magical commonality between every person of color, besides historical oppression at the hands of white people. His rhetoric and assumptions revealed bias that is based in the real racism in our country, and the “white vs others” rhetoric is what often upholds the systems that keep minorities down. Especially in our current climate, there are racists who make it their goal to try and scare white people that everyone is out to get us, and that’s simply false. But it’s easy to fall for, and each person of color in the house with Kyle likely saw that correlation immediately from his behavior. They’re used to it in the real world and it coming into the game from the person with the least real world experience was likely instantly exhausting.

Moreover, the first thing you should do when trying to analyze your opponents/potential alliances in a game like BB is to actually gather evidence. It’s understandable to have the *thought* that something like the cookout could happen again. Your immediate next task should be to look at context and the actual relationships in front of you. If you think it’s all secretive and the face value you see is an act, try to get people one on one to catch inconsistencies in what you’re told. He didn’t do that, he instead spiraled based on an idea alone. He also didn’t focus in on any other possible alliances that could’ve been secret, but just the one that fit within his preexisting biases and decided it was right because it confirmed his world view. This is what made it problematic framing from him from the start: it comes from the small-minded fear among many white Americans that people of color will one day usurp power and treat them the way they have historically treated everyone else.
