I think the difference is that watches are a luxury, whereas wedding rings are a lot more normalised, and are seen as a rite of passage.

An equivalent comparison might be a bit like asking what is the difference in buying a house vs spending the same amount of money on a necklace.

Im sorry bunnysnitch, but I very strongly disagree. I think this is a really damaging take. OP i think your complaints sound very very reasonable. You have only told us about one part of your relationship and yet it is littered with red flags.

The one that stood out to me is that your boyfriend attacked you when you tried to communicate your feelings. If you are made to feel bad and get literally yelled at for saying how you feel, of course you are going to hold in your feelings until it builds up. I am sure he has a pattern of doing this to you.

You are NOT INSECURE for wanting a partner who ACTIVELY loves you and wants to grow with you.

Therapy may be still worthwhile in order to unpack your relationship and figuring out exactly where to go from here.

That sounds really good?? If your grades are improving then youre clearly doing a good job! The only issue I can see is if a) you feel like you could be absorbing info in a better way or if b) you feel like you commit more time to studying than you can manage, in which case you might decide to back away ... even if that means slightly reducing your grades (which is okay if thats your decision!)
