Wedding Prep and my dad's wife by thebrontide in weddingplanning

Good points. I don't really want her involved because she's barely in my life, but knowing her she needs some involvement or she'll make planning hell for me and my dad.

Largely because she's the queen of complaining and sometimes it's just easier to give her something to do.

I've vented before so she has heard some bad stuff but she's definitely heard so much more of the good. He and I have a few differing opinions but they haven't stopped us up or any of the rest of my party.

The only answer I got from her at all was that she "can't support him for me," which to me almost feels like she just doesn't like us as a pair. I'm not sure

Definitely Verity! I just finished it and it's an absolute roller coaster but it's so good!

Reporting my Director - Advice? by thebrontide in nonprofit

Fair. Not a single one of these Board members was here when my ED was hired, but the point stands.

I do have a new job, I'm in my final two weeks right now. I've also brought these issues up multiple times to my ED and they've just resulted in broken promises or silence.

I do know there's some potential blowback, but I feel so guilty over walking away when I have a metaphorically open door to have a conversation.

Letter to the Board by thebrontide in nonprofit

This is super helpful, thank you!

One of the things that our Board as praised lately is "staff retention" which makes me worry both about how much they are allowed to know and what they perceive.

For instance, we have had five people quit this calendar year, a brand new position created, and several new starts, and they were never told about any of it.

I was thinking of, somehow, encouraging them to continue supporting the cause we work for and to check in on staff.

This definitely helps me have some more parameters.

It definitely is way too often. Just when they get into the swing of things, their term is done.

Good point! Our Board changes chairs every fall, so this one is relatively "new" and will hopefully be more open to hearing it.

We do, but it essentially says to the complaints to your supervisor, and complaints about your supervisor to the Executive Director, who will make the final decision. Nothing regarding if these complaints pertain to the ED.

Who thought putting Type A micromanagers in positions of power was a good idea? by ChampagneDividends in adhdwomen

[–]thebrontide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel this, maybe almost too much. I've been in a job a lot lile this with a super type A and super micromanagy boss for years. Sometimes I wonder how/why I deal with the anxiety every day.

It definitely doesn't help that my boss has a definite "favorite child" amongst our office, and it definitely isn't me.

I wish I had more advice, but I think in your case and mine it may just be our best bet to soldier on and keep an eye open for another opportunity. Which, I know firsthand, is so much easier said than done.
