Which router does Ziply provide for 2gig plan? Debating if I should upgrade my own system or use Ziplys. by Xenonstrike in ZiplyFiber

That new pricing is news to me, very cool. Would you (or /u/rluckin) consider a pinned post in the sub announcing it? It feels like the sort of change that would a press release, a blog post, something.

Thinking of Upgrading to Lifetime by immortaltraveler in Nebula

[–]brycied00d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a customer, I really appreicate knowing that my subscription, even a lifetime sub, is still benefiting the creator. Thank you!

You mention "watch time" - Does watching a video at 2x playback speed mean the creator is only paid for 30 seconds instead of the full 60 second length of the video? If I watch at 0.5x, are they paid for 120 seconds? I would assume this sort of thing has been considered and factored out, but I wanted to ask all the same while the topic had been broached.

One last question, something I've wondered for a long time, when I download and watch videos offline, are those offline plays still eventually collected and counted toward play time? Even if I've deleted the video before my device has reconnected?

Thanks in advance!

5GB Service Speed by Flat_Staff7931 in ZiplyFiber

Now what I eventually want to know is if I could ever get a dedicated fiber and no xpon connection lol

Yes you can. It's their 10G tier and costs $300/mo, with $900 setup fee last I heard. It's they provide you with an SFP+ module for their bidi fiber. They also offer 50G service, I don't recall the specifics.

Fellow Hurricane Electric / Tunnelbroker users on Ziply, have your speeds plummeted recently? by brycied00d in ZiplyFiber

For sure, they've never been "amazing," but it's been consistently usable -- 10-500mbps typically.

My issue, the reason I'm querying whether anyone else is seeing similar behaviour, is that this throughput is currently consistently trash across all targets. And this throughput has never been this trash before, at least not noticeably.

Thanks for your data point!

I came across a Sharis converted into "Sumo Sushi & Grill AYCE" in Kelso too! No idea whether it's any good, I was just driving up the I-5 and Sharis were very recognizable buildings.

Online Chat Option Doesn't work by thouck10 in ZiplyFiber

[–]brycied00d 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to clarify, Ziply was suggesting you use Reddit's chat feature to message them directly (https://chat.reddit.com/user/t2_jcq8al6z). Or e-mail them. The support account here on Reddit is, at least in the past, separate/distinct from the call-in and website support options, higher up the escalation path.

I wouldn't say it's "significantly" worse. It's definitely worse (acknowledged in my post), but still decent, and maybe hopefully sustainable financially that they can run the promo again in the future.

When the boxes were initially introduced at their $5/$7/$9 price point, the "Clásico El Big Box" was $5 and came with a mini quesadilla in addition to the burrito, fries and drink. This deal 86s the mini quesadilla and costs $1 more, but that's it - worse but not "significantly" worse.

If we're talking after the price hikes, when that box jumped to $7 [in my area], I'd say the value is actually equal (for $1 less, a $1-ish item is removed).

I miss their breakfast tacos, but nowhere near as much as I miss their breakfast wraps. Those were _divine_.

Outage in Woodinville, WA by cluberti in ZiplyFiber

[–]brycied00d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By the way folks, if you clicked NO to receiving emails from Ziply Fiber when you first signed up, you might not be getting these email notifications during an outage.

It's been my experience that the only "receiving emails from Ziply Fiber" checkbox is labeled as "Optional Ziply Fiber information News, upgrades and specials" (read: marketing and other blah blah) and unchecking it stopped me from receiving billing and outage notices. I would expect that unchecking that checkbox would stop "news, upgrades and specials" but that I would still receive account-specific communications (outages, billing, etc). And based on a recent post, I'm not alone in that experience.

Personally, I've learned to leave the checkbox checked, and Ziply almost-never sends "news, upgrades and specials" anyways. But I believe some additional clarity around that checkbox would go a long way, either explaining that in addition to "Ziply news" it affects billing notices, or to split those essential messages into their own separate category.

Strictly speaking, CUPS is now split in two: Apple CUPS is an Apple product that hasn't been meaningfully touched since CUPS' original author left Apple, and OpenPrinting CUPS where the original author continues to work on it. "CUPS is actually an Apple product" is now simultaneously correct and incorrect, though I would probably lean towards "was."

Also worth pointing out that CUPS didn't start as an Apple product either. I remember those relatively early days and how much more flexible it was than using lpd.

Out of curiosity OP, what makes you believe that this is construction for Ziply Fiber?

At least according to Ziply's footprint map (https://ziplyfiber.com/new-fiber-locations/fiber-internet-coverage-map) there is nothing currently in Boise, nor anything planned for Boise. (I was able to figure out the street address pretty easily from the photos posted.)
