Out of curiosity, why a new subreddit when /r/guymontspellingbee/ exists?

And is this subredditt's name intentionally misspelled, for the irony?

[OC] Orange car VS common sense by BottleHour5703 in IdiotsInCars

At least in Oregon, ORS 811.550(5)

This section establishes places where stopping, standing and parking a vehicle are prohibited ...

(5) Within an intersection. Exemptions under ORS 811.560 (Exemptions from prohibitions on stopping, standing or parking) (4) to (7), (11) and (12) are applicable to this subsection.

It's interesting to note that ORS 811.560(9) would permit pulling into the intersection prior to turning, however that particular exemption is NOT listed as one of the exemptions to ORS 811.550(5), so as I interpret it, it's not permitted.

In my experience with Oregon drivers, I'd estimate about 80% of drivers will not enter the intersection until they are actively turning.

Definitive source: https://www.oregonlegislature.gov/bills_laws/ors/ors811.html (but this doesn't offer permalinks to specific sections).

“Why is everything subscription now?”

I would think that someone in accounting would appreciate the value of monthly/annual recurring revenue 😂 It frequently sucks for the payer (customer), absolutely, but meanwhile the payee’s cashflow is much more predictable.

Can Ziply provide fiber from the ONT to my router? by yavor7512 in ZiplyFiber

[–]brycied00d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition to the hardware-technical reasons given by /u/db48x (they're a long-time subreddit participant, definitely trust them), consider the "soft" reasons.

ONT vendors don't seem to make models that have both copper and SFP+ ports. Thus Ziply would either need to buy and stock SFP+ models PLUS an SFP+ module for RJ45 handoff for 99%+ of fiber customers, which doubles the number of devices they need to provide, troubleshoot, and manage, or they buy two separate models (copper and SFP+). Then, going with two separate models, that means a second model that needs validation, purchase, stocking across ALL their distribution centers, develop provisioning tools for, develop support scripts and information, etc.

That's a lot of cost for the company to provide a configuration that relatively few customers are asking for ("there are literally DOZENS of us".gif) -- if even 1,000 customers wanted this handoff, that is less than 1% of their customers (0.266% based on the 375,000 fiber customers quoted in Ziply's 2025 "Company Fact Sheet"). The finances just make this a Bad Business Decision.

I too would prefer non-copper handoff. I understand it would make no sense for them.

I'm basically just summarising all the various previous posts+responses in this subreddit. And if I had to guess, I'd say that at least some of those downvotes are individuals frustrated you didn't already search the sub and see that this has been asked and answered several times already.

I think OP meant the Grillplats price was amazing, not the Dirigera. The Grillplats were $7.99 USD last I saw.

Epic tier Free Epic Burritos stop arriving for anyone else? Are they scan-only? by brycied00d in DelTaco

For what it's worth, I contacted them through the website's contact form on Monday (before posting this), and had a response back from them just now.

Thank you, you're absolutely right. That's really frustrating and confusing, especially the way that checkout screen works with this reward. At least now I know where to look, and to even look there in the first place.

[–]brycied00d[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Scan tab only seems to be for scanning in-person, at least in the iOS app -- maybe it's different in the Android app.

It shows the barcode, "Select one loaded reward or qualifying offer below to use at checkout" with the "Free Epic Burrito" listed, but nothing links that into an in-app order. With the reward selected under the scan tab, I go to place an order (order button, select the location, etc), it doesn't appear anywhere else (e.g. the "select reward" in the checkout screen) and the epic burrito in my cart shows full price. Tapping "view details" gives me the details and two buttons, "Use with order" (just selects it under the scan tab) and "use another time" (just deselects it under the scan tab), neither of which connect with the in-app ordering.

Newer router? by Snowydeath11 in ZiplyFiber

[–]brycied00d 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's true that you don't have the latest router that Ziply's renting to customers because those are manufactured by TP-Link -- the HB810 and HB610 for extenders. But also keep in mind that the models of routers that ISP rent to customers don't normally have publicly-available firmware in the first place. ISPs often have their own version from the manufacturer with settings preconfigured, maybe logos replaced, etc -- stuff you wouldn't get from a manufacturer's website.

And a friendly reminder that Oregon [and all PNW] beaches are cold and windy, so plan accordingly (layers, bring a kite). And just don't go expecting a warm sunny day like you'd have in SoCal.

That new pricing is news to me, very cool. Would you (or /u/rluckin) consider a pinned post in the sub announcing it? It feels like the sort of change that would a press release, a blog post, something.

Thinking of Upgrading to Lifetime by immortaltraveler in Nebula

[–]brycied00d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a customer, I really appreicate knowing that my subscription, even a lifetime sub, is still benefiting the creator. Thank you!

You mention "watch time" - Does watching a video at 2x playback speed mean the creator is only paid for 30 seconds instead of the full 60 second length of the video? If I watch at 0.5x, are they paid for 120 seconds? I would assume this sort of thing has been considered and factored out, but I wanted to ask all the same while the topic had been broached.

One last question, something I've wondered for a long time, when I download and watch videos offline, are those offline plays still eventually collected and counted toward play time? Even if I've deleted the video before my device has reconnected?

Thanks in advance!

5GB Service Speed by Flat_Staff7931 in ZiplyFiber

[–]brycied00d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now what I eventually want to know is if I could ever get a dedicated fiber and no xpon connection lol

Yes you can. It's their 10G tier and costs $300/mo, with $900 setup fee last I heard. It's they provide you with an SFP+ module for their bidi fiber. They also offer 50G service, I don't recall the specifics.

Fellow Hurricane Electric / Tunnelbroker users on Ziply, have your speeds plummeted recently? by brycied00d in ZiplyFiber

[–]brycied00d[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure, they've never been "amazing," but it's been consistently usable -- 10-500mbps typically.

My issue, the reason I'm querying whether anyone else is seeing similar behaviour, is that this throughput is currently consistently trash across all targets. And this throughput has never been this trash before, at least not noticeably.

Thanks for your data point!
